But no one watches practice?  Ever?  What the heck it's Sunday night I'll bite. I'm sure a couple of people might occasionally come by and watch practice if that is ok with the coaching staff at football programs all across the country. Is it your belief that the stands should have been packed for an unannounced intersquad scrimmage. I feel like some folks on the board just want to complain and put down the ways thing are at Holy Cross just to do it. At times I feel you guys could make a deep run in the playoffs and some would be yea but you know we should have done better, back in the 1930's we were a national power, we should be playing Notre Dame etc. I don't get it. You have a wonderful school full of actual student athletes enjoy what college sports are supposed to be. I know I'm looking forward to coming down to Worcester this fall to watch my Wildcats play in football and basketball this year. Let's not look to make everything a negative about your program ie. no one is watching a inter squad scrimmage, where only in the PL, we don't get enough fans etc. Enjoy it! No, the stands shouldn't have been packed, but seeing it completely empty was strange. Maybe a couple dozen or so folks on the other side?

Could it have been closed to spectators as most/all basketball scrimmages are ?

I'm confused. Why would there be a crowd at an intersquad scrimmage? It's basically just another practice. I didn't see any advertisement for some kind of Purple/White end-of-camp type event. Furthermore I would expect practices to be closed, or at least visitors discouraged in some passive manner. We don't want anyone from UConn seeing our our trick plays after all.

I assume the only reason for having an intra-squad scrimmage at Fitton was for the video. Certainly not the preferred location for a 'closed' practice/.

Rentschler Field is natural grass. I think Fitton is the only area on campus with a grass surface suitable for playing a football game.
Also, it may be as simple as changing the scenery to help break up the monotony in the middle of a long training camp.

Could very well be down there again for another practice.

Brief report on progress of practices on TV3 last night.
The first 1:40 regards Holy Cross; the rest involves other Worcester schools.
Interesting, but not much in the way of information.

Is there no longer a grass football practice field behind hart? Next to Fr. K field or on the lower level next to soccer?

Is there no longer a grass football practice field behind hart? Next to Fr. K field or on the lower level next to soccer? Yes, there is. As part of Luth construction and the road re-alignment. it was to be slid 10-15 yards to the south. If you look at the start of this video from the fall of last year, you can see the goalposts lower right part of the frame. I assume it is being used for soccer practice, to save wear and tear on the competition field.. There is a second grass field next to Fr. K field, but I believe it is used mainly for field events, e.g., javelin, hammer throw, though it may be used during summer soccer camps.

The roster has recently been updated with new weights stated for many members of the team. In comparing the current roster to one that I printed out on August 1 -- the weights for 27 players remained unchanged. For all other players, the new weights are more than the previous ones. The biggest increase was for freshman TE Mike Pizziketti; previously listed at 240, he is now listed at 268. The biggest increase for a returning player was for sophomore OL Joe Mattingly; previously listed at 275, he is now listed at 300. Junior WR Derek Mountain went from 215 to 239. For most of the others, the increase was fairly small -- generally in the range of 5 - 15 pounds higher.

Mountain, IIRC, is the kid who also played basketball. Kind of heavy for a WR, I would think. At 268, that sounds a little too heavy for a TE, even at NFL standards, unless we are going to use him almost exclusively as a blocking TE.
Hopefully those 5-15 pound increases are all muscle.
Thanks,as always, breezy.

Good points, sader1970. Personally, I would be curious to see how Mountain would do on defense in the lane.
