Bucknell will not be as formidable as UConn was. The question will be more whether the Crusaders have a let down. I said before the game that UConn is probably not as good as others were claiming, mostly because of their D-IA status, but they are certainly better than Bucknell. But on any given Saturday, one PL team can probably beat another, especially if they get the right breaks. We have had an historical issue of playing up or down to the opponent's level. That's my biggest concern. I recall that I have made just one trip down to Bucknell. It was the year we won the PL championship. Bucknell was not having a good year and it was the last game of the regular season. I guess because we had clinched the championship, we kind of sleepwalked through the game and got beat. We should win assuming we don't take the Bison lightly.

Cam Newton's brother is QB for Howard....I didn't see the game, just the stories online...that is a huge upset, Howard has been mostly horrific for awhile now.

I guess because we had clinched the championship, we kind of sleepwalked through the game and got beat. We should win assuming we don't take the Bison lightly. Turnovers killed us in the first half in that game and Bucknell prepared for and played that game as if they were playing for a championship. We had indeed just clinched the week prior but that regular season finale was potentially a big game for us at the time as there were rumblings that a 10-1 record would have given us a home game in the Round of 16 -- I doubt it but maybe the committee would have abstained from sending us to play on the road against a top 4 seed. Bucknell also beat Fordham in 2007 in the regular season finale after the Rams had clinched the conference championship.

I guess this guy knows Football. 🏈 According to to one article I read, if you bet $100.00 on Howard, your return would have been $55,000. Is Howard on our schedule in the future? I thought we owed them a return game from their game in Worcester in 2010.

I think it may have been due to Yale pulling the plug late on a scheduled game or b/c of Northeastern dropping football. Can't remember exactly but both those scenarios jog my memory,

Spot overturned. Ucla ball. Ucla win.
Has it been explained why our spot wasn't reviewed?

UCLA comes from 34 behind to beat A&M, 45-44. Final A&M possession, they make a first down on 4th and 10...and it gets jusfiably reversed on replay. Was an error by about a foot...ours was 3 or 4 times worse than that one and the a-holes don't even take a look at it.

That was just one of the errors. The other was an obvious DB's arm around I think it was DeNicola and there was no call because the announcers thought the refs believed it was "incidental contact" with the receiver and DB's getting tangled. On replay, clearly showed UConn's left arm around our intended receiver. At some point in the game the announcers shrugged off the errors when it went UConn's way as "well, it is the first game for everyone" implying refs screwed up, but everyone does when the season starts. They may not have been so sanguine if the calls went HC's way.
I also didn't care for the announcers saying Bell made an "error" when he fumbled. There is one thing when a receiver or runner carries the ball like the proverbial "loaf of bread." In Blaise's case, he went high up for the ball, got creamed and landed on his head. I don't fault him for that.
While we still don't know how good or bad UConn is based on this one game, going into it, very few thought we would have a chance against the Huskies but we fought toe-to-toe with them to the end and but for a couple of egregious calls against us, we might have pulled this out. We made mistakes but so did they. Somewhat to be expected in a first game. Their biggest mistakes was the ejection of their star nose tackle with his helmet to helmet hit to Peter. Hopefully Peter was one of the players with those new, safer helmets, because it really seemed to have worked and worth the investment in them. If that made a difference that would have otherwise put him out of the game and possibly future games, I couldn't think of a better investment. Kudos Nate and Tom G.

Our players seem to all, for the most part, have the talent and do well as individual players. We just don't win football games for some reason. There always seems to come one or two critical moments in most games where we come up short and that solidifies losing that particular game. It has been repeated countless times since 2012.....

That is true, but let's see just how good an FBS school UConn is. That alone (the FBS status) makes the last game far different from those others.

The upcoming matchup between UConn and USF will be interesting as both are coming off close victories over FCS opponents. USF (despite its #19 national ranking) had trouble with Stony Brook (tied at 17 with 13 minutes left in the game). USF quarterback may give UConn defense fits. (Stony Brook has very good team speed and UConn seemed a bit slow [IMHO] for FBS.). Also interesting to see how West Point really is going forward. This could be the most talented West Point team in many years. SUNY Buffalo this week and Ohio State (!) the week after. (Edited to fix my FCS/FBS typos. So much easier when it was I-A and I-AA. Thanks rgs318.)

Rooting for the Huskies to make our loss look as good as possible of course.
This Army team could be special with Bradshaw under center again for the third(?) straight year. Best case scenario, it's their best squad in 20 years. Worst case, I still see them bowling.

I can't seem to understand why we didn't call a timeout on our last drive / last play when Peter was under centered and looked very confused pre-snap with the play clock running down to 1 or 2 seconds. We just rushed the play which was a complete bust.

Very disappointing loss but also could be very encouraging at the same time. The defense played very well overall. Much more aggressive and tackled so much better than at any point last season. We attacked most of the game. Except for the third quarter I liked what we were doing offensively as well. We cant sit and try to run the ball on 1st and 2nd down. Just not the make up of our offense. Also, Cozier should be getting the bulk of the carries. He's clearly the best running back. As well as Pujals played, he did miss some throws in the game. Too many if we are to win a bunch of games. I've said it many times, as poor as our running game is overall and as much as we throw the ball, I don't understand why we don't use our RBs in the passing game more. They don't block for crap anyway. The turnover by Bell was huge. We had a chance to drive, maybe put some points on the board, but more importantly keep our defense off the field. The ineffectiveness of the offense in the second half and lack of a decent running game are the only recurring themes I noticed from previous seasons. Lastly, we got HOSED by the officiating in this game.
I know it's early but this is a must win game for this team...

Late to respond (Labor day weekend) to this but was at the Uconn game last week. A decent showing by the HC faithful. They just can't close out games!!! 2nd half slumps continued. However, I was very impressed with our run defense. Other than 1 or 2 long rushes, HC really stuffed any attempt at the line. KEEP IMPROVING!!!!

We just rushed the play which was a complete bust. My guess would be that in the event we turned the ball over on downs, we wanted to have that timeout to stop the clock. If the play we ran was what we would have run regardless of whether a timeout was called, then I have no problem with it. The issue is that Peter seemed to audible at the line, and the play we ran was not a good one.

Looking forward to a lot more of Peter Pujals connecting with Blaise Bell this season. Blaise presents all sorts of matchup problems for opposing DBs and LBs and will help create other areas that PP and the offense can exploit.
Love everybody's passion at this board.

Holy Cross up until tonight had the most points ever scored against UConn - 69 points in 1919. Memphis however broke that record an hour ago down in East Hartford beating the Huskies 70-31.

UConn lead early and tied at 14 until Memphis scored to go up 21-14, then they gradually piled it on.
