If the College of St. Benedict's is Catholic, we are the #2 Catholic liberal arts school Maybe more impressive is the #16 in the northeast among all schools in the Best Bang for your Buck rating.

Amazing for a College that seems to have lost its way, gotten less competitive and more Seminary-ish in the minds of many on this Board.

The article itself is kind of a meandering and goofy political read. Not too often does one find Trump described as a 'white supremacist' in an article on college rankings that I suppose are meant to be taken seriously. Washington Monthly does heap praise on its number one liberal arts school, Berea College. Gotta admit I know nothing of the Washington Monthly rankings and even less about Berea College.

Berea is in Eastern Kentucky in the Appalachians. It may be unique among American colleges: admits only lower income students tuition free students are required to work on campus huge endowment

Waswhington Monthly has been doing these rankings for several decades. IIRC, the ranking is weighted on value for the dollar, which is why Berea would be high.

Since 2005, the Washington Monthly has released an annual College Guide and rankings, where we rate schools based on what they are doing for the country. It’s our answer to U.S News & World Report, which relies on crude and easily manipulated measures of wealth, exclusivity, and prestige to evaluate schools.
We rate schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs), and Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).
Now the peculiarities (Trump bashing, etc.) in the article containing the rankings make a bit more sense

We agree that we are great but the MARKET (18 year olds and their parents, in Arlington Va. and elsewhere, DON'T see that!) If they did our application numbers would (as they should) skyrocket! STOP HIDING THE LIGHT UNDER A BUSHEL!
