I asked a number of the usual suspects here if they thought UNH fan was at the game. We would have loved to have met you.
I have posted frequently of my trips to Durham and how very friendly and welcoming the locals and students are up there . . . . like they are happy to see us visiting even if we are clad in purple. I certainly would have liked to return the favor.
After all the close and not-so-close losses to the Wildcats, I was happy to see us win and win big but tempered that feeling because I felt we were beating a "class" team and staff. Good luck to the Wildcats going forward.

Was at the game yesterday and attendance was just ok for the home opener. It was EXTREMELY hot and humid after the clouds departed around 12:30pm. Could have kept some locals away. But what a win!!! One of the best games I have seen at Fitton in some time, team really put it together for 4 quarters and you could tell from the sideline that HCTG got his team up in the 4th to finish the game.
For the most part RSIG security kept away from us (on the baseball field). Not harassing us during the tailgate with their usual "power trip" attitude was a plus. It's about time. However, there are still major problems with them i'd like to discuss.
1.) At 10am the parking organization was a total S*!* Show. Cars were backed all the way down the baseball field as they only allowed 1 car at a time and trying to back cars to specific spots caused a huge delay. Clearly these people have never been to Fitton before and caused a huge headache. How hard is it to allow people to park in a line? Sometimes overdoing it causes bigger problems.
2.) Also a very nice gentlemen from class of the 1960's was brutally harassed when he came in and tried to park. The poor guy couldn't back his car in and RSIG security flocked around him screaming at him like he was Kim Jon Un landing on US soil. It was disgusting and they should be ashamed at how they treated that alumn. I'd like to point out specifically the bald middle aged RSIG staffer who really treated our alumn poorly, this person should NEVER be allowed back to work the games. This is an HC football game, not the white house.
In an effort to increase profit margins, why not FIRE RSIG and just hire the ROTC students? Cheaper, and make for better game day experience. Overall during the game they were fine but pre-game they were on their usual "power-trip".
More importantly the team looks good and size wise we just as big as our opponents now. KEEP IT UP!

Many people believe that a winning team will bring fans. after today's great victory we can see if that holds true in coming weeks Yes, but a winning team is not going to cancel all of the soccer, football, baseball and other commitments that local families have on Saturday mornings. 3:30 start time would be a homerun.

For selfish reasons, I would love a later start as there is never a Fall Saturday when we aren't swamped with our kids' games at least through the mid-afternoon. Unfortunately, as hoops points out, you need lights if you want to do that. Sunset in Worcester is 6:28 on 10/1 and 5:31 on 10/31.

I am with you all on the soccer but it isn't just soccer that keeps us from Fitton. This Fall, we have broadened our horizons. We have 3 soccer teams, 1 baseball team, 1 flag football team and 1 basketball team.

Probably a discussion for another thread but I agree. Youth sports have gone too far. With the rare exceptions of course, what I see are a bunch of kids getting dragged all over the state and country by parents living vicariously through then, most already burned out or likely heading in that direction, and a bunch of organizations having thriving businesses as a result. In an effort to teach the lessons learned by sport to our kids, I think we may have actually gone too far, to the point where the lessons are overshadowed by sheer drudgery. I've heard my friends kids confide to my own kids that they hate going to these weekend long tournaments or meets, although when you talk to their parents they tell a different story, saying how much they love them. Most of these parents never had experience playing D1 sports, although they talk about their intramurals as if they were. I try not to engage. Let kids be kids. Take them to Fitton, buy them a slimy hot dog, and relax.
That being said, I've missed every HC game so far because of youth sports! So please have more night games, Mr. Pine.
Can of worms? Sorry if so.

Improvements needed at Fitton Field:
Better locker rooms for home and visitors Need a modern press box Better concession stands with food Large video screen LIGHTS

Improvements needed at Fitton Field: Better locker rooms for home and visitors Need a modern press box Better concession stands with food Large video screen LIGHTS > A new locker room for visitors is planned. > Because of ADA, modern press box has to be built so it doesn't attach to the stadium itself. (See UMass.) > You might get by with the concession stand improvements if these are not part of the stadium structure. > Large video screen. ADNP said on a very recent tour that video screens for the Hart court are coming, at a cost of $2.5 million or so. So I think unless a donor pays for it, Fitton video screens are on hold until the Hart video boards are in. > Lights has been discussed ad nauseum on this board and the old one. IMO, there will be a video screen before there are lights. Lights are a major investment for perhaps two games a year. And its not lights for the stadium but also lighting the surrounding area and access points; e.g., Freshman field. And again IMO, there will be a new parking garage at the top of the hill before there are lights at the Fitton football field. In short, any improvements to the stadium itself at this point is lipstick.

Here's a possible compromise...How about making the video board at Fitton so bright that it can illuminate at least part of the field in the late afternoon? In all seriousness, much as I like the video boards I have seen at other schools (the football powerhouse CCSU comes to mind), this is not something we need immediately. From what you say it appears that the more important issues are already being addressed. Thanks for the info, Pak.

Improvements needed at Fitton Field: Better locker rooms for home and visitors Need a modern press box Better concession stands with food Large video screen LIGHTS not sure if people are fully aware of the restrictions of Cotton, but without a major investment in retooling the entire seating bull it is only usable for football. So while those things you list would certainly be nice is it really the best way for Holy Cross to spend its money given at the facility with by definition will only be used 5 times this year?

Mom said go out and play. We had enough to play baseball, football, soccer, street hockey, basketball, tennis, luge (sledding), skating on the pond down the street ...
... every day of the week, all year long and mom and dad did not have to drive us anywhere!

Improvements needed at Fitton Field: Better locker rooms for home and visitors Need a modern press box Better concession stands with food Large video screen LIGHTS Also conversion to seat backs would decrease capacity by about 25% which is more in line with with our expected attendance numbers. Besides being more comfortable, it would also show better by spreading the crowd around more evenly. We could have a few sections of bleachers for students and overflow, some of which could be capped off in that purple shrould and utilized as needed. A smaller capacity full stadium is always more energizing than a half empty larger one. Optics! Frankly this modification alone would be enough. Can't think of a higher yield investment. Locker rooms are meaningless as they are only used for a few hours a year. Concession upgrades would be nice and could be done on the cheap. Press box? Who cares. Last on the list. Lights are great but can be brought in a few times per year.

It can have a good payoff with direct program results.

True but like in medicine and old cars there is a triage. Unless we dump 20 million and do everything at once, you start with the most important/highest yield things first and work down the list. Fan comfort, stadium optics, and a more appropriately scaled seating capacity, in my book, would be the best major modification.
Next, and in this order: 2. Lights 3. Concession 4. Locker rooms 5. Scoreboard 6. Press box
Seems we've abandoned field turf, which is great if Fitton is to continue to be used as a football only venue.
At which point the ADA is tripped, Phreak probably knows.
Alternatively of course, demo the whole thing and start anew.
