"admin leave" for 10 days so UL doesn't have to eat 44 mil.

"admin leave" for 10 days so UL doesn't have to eat 44 mil. Yes, both are technically employees because they have certain appeal rights to contest their dismissal. And as their dismissal is for cause, Louisville avoids a financial hit.

Of course, Pitino's lawyer said he was "effectively fired." The lawyer had 44 million reasons to say that

UL is off the hook for the 44 Mil after 10 days for firing w/"just cause". Doesn't matter what the lawyer is trying to spin.

OK by me if UL has to pay $44M. Serves them right for hiring and keeping him.

Effectively 3 if you count Bowen.

According to WFAN this afternoon, Pitino is being placed on indefinite indefinite leave pending a review of this entire situation. That is expected to take at least 10 days (and to meet the time limit in his contract before he can be fired "for cause." This could be the first step to his exit, but it could also be window dressing before yet another slap on the wrist with other paying the penalty (including the school). Time will tell.

So does this go in as late coaching carousel entry for last year or the first for this year?
The whole thing is nauseating......

I guess it may depend on if a current coach, such as Cronin, takes the job.

RW will not be seriously considered. He's too old, too close to RP, and simply doesn't have the resume for a school like that.

Money can cure most anything, but a new coach has to think that a Damoclean sword (NCAA sanctions) looms over the program.
And I don't think that certain schools in the ACC are all that happy that two conference schools are involved.

Let's not forget UNC with the academic scandal. Been a bad year or so for the ACC.
I personally believe RP did not "know" about hooker gate or sneaker gate. Too much at risk for him to turn his career over to a couple of assistants. Did he tell recruiters if you get this kid it's a $20,000 bonus. If you don't get him. You're gone. I can see that. So, unscrupulous assistants go out and do unscrupulous things. What RP will be fired for, however, is that he's responsible for the assistants he hires. One bad apple? OK. Two bad? It's on RP. What does trouble me about my theory, however, is that the authorities haven't named UL or the assistant. Maybe they are not through squeezing him.

I will miss watching Pitino's teams play. At a time when the NBA is unwatchable and AAU ball + the 1-and-done rule are really hurting the level of play in College Basketball, RP's teams were always very well coached and enjoyable to watch.
The idea that stretching, bending, breaking the NCAA rules makes Pitino some type of outlier in the high-major landscape is extremely naive. The personal misconduct is a totally separate issue, but as far as the NCAA rules go, the only thing different between Pitino/Louisville and other coaches/programs is that they got caught.
