Fair article Few errors, except Connor N. As a wing Jehyve deserved a mention [ "That would be the first of back-to-back Final Four appearances. Tournament success from that era may come with an asterisk, but Holy Cross has appeared in the NCAA Tournament at least once in every decade since (besides the 1960s). This includes five bids since 2001." In the eighties made NIT - did they make NCAA?

Iona vacated its win.

Yes. Bucknell no hockey not fighting a two-front war. Basketball featured winter sport.

Nope. But if you think about the reality of budgets in the millions of dollars we spend on men's and women's ice hockey that money could certainly help us do even more in sports like basketball. Tough to do it all when you are a liberal arts college of 2800 without the Deep Pockets of many of our competitors.
Out of curiosity what would be your vision for our athletics program given fiscal reality? Keep the same number of sports? Drop football? You are always quick to insert your opinion along with a glib line or two but I would love to know some specifics of your vision.

you're down on glib?
My formula for HC has always been the Gonzaga one.
Define yourself as unique. (OK the East's Gonzaga)
Play anybody anywhere
Spend the money to make that happen
Think 'zaga is watching pennies re:their 'hoops program?

Oh Eye-Ore we just can't. It's hard to get kids in. No one wants to come to Worcester. The showers are cold. The schools on a hill. We're next to Rothman's. The cool kids don't like us
Goodness; it goes on and on.
Is the defeatism among us viral? genetic? learned?
be HOLY CROSS; be UNIQUE
Kick some butt.

Ok that gives me something to work with. Putting the academic differences aside, Gonzaga sponsors 16 varsity teams. Which 11 of our programs, starting with football and hockey, would you like to cut to get us down to that number so that the resources can be reinvested?
And by the way would you be surprised for one second if the FBI probe into college basketball lands a Gonzaga coach or coaches in jail?

I like to kick butt but you need to have lots of money at your disposal to do so. Please see my previous post about which teams to cut at Holy Cross to free up those resources.

Define yourself as unique. (OK the East's Gonzaga) We would have to eliminate academic standards. Dropping football, hockey, and lacrosse would help, too.

The only comp in terms of size, academic excellence, and athletic ambition seems to be Davidson. Is its approach a legitimate model to emulate?

Everyone relax. We aren’t going anywhere. We are Holy Cross. . We are a small college. We think small, like a small college. Patriot League is perfect for us. Lots of losing minor sports is OK with us. Go Cross Go beat Lafayette

Carmody is akin to McKillop but the A 10 is not so akin to the PL Davidson played their way out of the Southern Conference. HC, when conference realignment was happening, may have been able to do the same had we continued our successful run from 2001-07.

We think small, like a small college. We have the most impressive indoor football training facility in New England.

The only comp in terms of size, academic excellence, and athletic ambition seems to be Davidson. Is its approach a legitimate model to emulate? Richmond might be a better comparison for what a lot of you guys seem to desire. About the same size as HC, takes FCS football a lot more seriously than does Davidson, excellent athletic facilities, etc. Richmond's a wealthier school, but I'm not sure that makes that much of a difference. The fact that a lot of that wealth comes from a single family who has been enormously generous probably does. There aren't too many places of which I am aware where the football stadium and basketball arena are named after the same man/family.
