Nice (and unusual) to hear BC say we will have a strong team this year. His comments on yesterday's practice "balls flying everywhere" was interesting.

That interview was the best part of the day by far.
"Balls flying" according to BC, was your typical sloppy first day of practice.
We'll see how it plays out...but he seems like such the "right guy" for HC right now.

Couple other things noted:
Coach Carm, while positive about the frosh, said the older guys (mentioned, KC, PB and JF) have to lead the way.
He also noted that with the frosh he's noted a "collective toughness", or something like that.
The Coach Carmody Funny of the Day: the interviewer asked him about his transition from a college player to a college coach. He says to her (paraphrasing): "Ah, you know that was in the last century!"

Any context ? He was asked about having so many young players this year. He seemed upbeat and far more relaxed than usual. He was speaking about the first practice and did say he had a sleepless night thinking about the practice over and over. He said it was great to have so many players shooting the ball...and shooting it well.

I thought it was a good interview all around, with a lot of good questions. Should be noted too, that Carmody (in general terms) also complimented the departing players he inherited (when asked about how excited he must be to have all his own players now. I think he also corrected her on that). He said those guys helped him with the transition.

The frosh will be good someday but will not immediately replace the grads

no need to lay down 'I told you so...' markers yet. Lets see some game action. At this point a 500 season would be a good accomplishment... hopefully, after seeing them in action as a group, it may be a disappointment.

We need someone to get into one of those practices. In some prior years WooGray provided some great observations and insights from viewing practices........

I think Carmody, like Willard and a lot of other coaches, prefers to keep his practices private. He'll likely open one to the public in the next 2-3 weeks, probably late morning of the 28th, before the football game. Might be worth contacting the DoBO , Dave Metzendorf, to confirm.

Something tells me the closed practices would be more interesting than the open practices but beggars can't be choosers.

Hopefully some of the "beggars" who do get to see our Crusaders will share their experience and observations with all of us. If that is not possible, try to join my wife and I in Belfast to cheer for HC....OK, a cheap boost for the trip, but we hope to have come company over there. (So far I only know of a few people headed over.)

The frosh will be good someday but will not immediately replace the grads That's a pretty safe statement. The average freshman doesn't ever step in from day 1 and perform like an average four year veteran

Yup. Karl was well above average. Karl gave that team more than I could have hoped for. Still, in all fairness, his freshman year was not as good as Malcolm Miller's senior year. Just to throw out a name, Kevin Hamilton was a Hall of Famer, but his freshman year was not as good as Ryan Serravalle's senior year I still think ncaam was pretty safe in saying the frosh will be good but not immediately replace the grads. This is not to disparage any of the new kids, simply my view of development required of any kid playing at this level I will be shocked - ecstatic but still shocked - if any of these freshman put up the same numbers as either Champion or Alexander did last year.

Just to nitpick a bit, the frosh will be on the court and the graduates will not. Doesn't that mean they have "replaced them" on the team? now as to replacing their play and offensive production, your last point is certainly valid. I too would be both ecstatic and shocked if HC's offensive production did not suffer for a time. The question is, how long a time will that be? Will they get into early foul trouble as some of our veterans did early on? Will they improve team rebounding...offensive rebounding in particular? Will their outside shooting help to open up the lane and underneath the hoop for the PO to be effective? I look forward to learning the answers to these and other questions as the season progresses. GO CROSS GO!
