Holy Cross Beats Yale Eleven, 26-14; By MICHAEL STRAUSS Special to The New York Times ; October 01, 1967,
NEW HAVEN, Conn., Sept. 30, 1967--Holy Cross gave its new head coach, Tom Boisture, a gala coming out party that provided few worries today as the Crusaders swept to a 26-to-14 triumph over Yale in the opening game for both elevens.
The above game was my first boyhood memory of Holy Cross football. My Dad '48 (RIP, Bu) piled me and my 5 older siblings into the wagon and we drove down from Boston to see the Cross beat up on a highly touted Yale team that went on to an 8-1 record.
Not sure if I can find the same seat but I recall the view from within the Yale Bowl and will recreate it tomorrow so we can capture a little karma and inspire the Crusaders to victory.
Never give up. Never.

I am doing the same: Yale Bowl, staying with friends in CT and then heading to Jets-Pats where I will meet my son coming up from Philidelphia (go Saders and Pats!)

Then why am I going?! And it is supposed to rain too! Oh, I know, to keep td128 company. I was at that '67 game too and a lot older than you, td, but I'd have no clue where I was sitting 50 years ago but do recall sitting low in the stands behind the bench since the Bowl had a few vacant seats. Went down with 3 other classmates and one of the few away trips we made where we came back happy. Colgate/Hamilton a totally different story! But, maybe the 50th anniversary of that win will be a good omen for the Crusaders?

TG was singing the praises of Yale to Tom and myself off-camera last nite as if they are Alabama north. Said their QB had ACC offers and one of their DL had P5 offers.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Ivys have ramped up their recruiting efforts and have had good success in getting multiple 3* and 2* recruits (and getting some FBS transfers as well). Talent-wise, they are able to get some very good players. HC will have to play very well to get the W tomorrow.

HC needs to be error free, with as great game from our runners, PP AND from his receivers. Special teams, if it is close, may be the difference again.

We'll be lucky to get a first down tomorrow. I heard Yale is probably bowl-bound too. Are they solid? Sure, but we aren't exactly playing Georgia tomorrow either...there's no reason it shouldn't be a hard-fought decent game.

I do and try to torture Artie Lynch (who I coached in hoop in HS and who played football at UGA) on every occasion I can.
Yale is decent but Gilmore (like most coaches do) is trying to sand-bag this game as much as possible. We lose tomorrow and we probably don't go .500 this year and TG is either the next HC Asst. AD or looking to coach elsewhere.

I think I witnessed 3 or 4 Yale games in person, the ones that stick out are as follows (and not positively).
1. Jeff Wiley came off the bench as a freshman and rallied HC from a 12-0 deficit...but Yale drove 80 yards in the final 2 or 3 minutes to win. Carter's last year. 2. First Vaas year. HC struggling on offense, losing 7-3, HC driving. Guy wide, wide, wide open across the middle...would have scored easily. Flat out drops the ball. HC loses 7-3. 3. 2001. HC winning by 8. 4th and goal from the 7 (HC had a decent kicker too), 7 or 8 minutes left. Some genius (Allen, I guess) decides that a two score lead is not enough at that point. Fake field goal called, fails. Yale marches down the field, scores a TD and ties it on a 2 point conversion. HC gets the ball back, throws an INT. Yale kicks a field goal as time expires. A Gilmore-esque loss to be sure.

I'm leaning towards going to the (undefeated) Columbia v Penn game in the city with a few Lehigh football alums -- Easier travel and either way I'm guaranteed to be pleased with the end result. Those who noticed the amazing recruits Columbia has landed the last two years (and Al Bagnoli) predicted Columbia would challenge for the title. People who didn't notice just laughed at that idea. The young guys are huge contributors (which is a clear indication how good the recruiting was). It does seem like the Ivies - not just Columbia - are recruiting particularly well these last few years. _______________________________ One ray of hope for HC today is that we played Dartmouth (thru regulation anyway) this year about the same way Yale played Dartmouth this year.

Looks like a loss today by 10 to 14 Guys will play hard for sure but will come up short I suspect. We have good players, they just do not win many games. Colgate, Lehigh and Fordham will be tough as well. Looking like maybe 4-7 ( and that's with PP .... Yikes )
