Chesney is not a lazy hire. Lamb would be. No use for an Ivy-lifer. I agree. If it Chesney, NP is going out on a limb. It could be a career changer for him, too, whichever way it goes. My concern is keeping the verbal commits but, maybe, I am worrying too much. Perhaps NP, Rock, and the current assistants are confident that these kids are under control. I suppose that if many were not heavily recruited, they may not have a lot of options anyway at this late date. What might really be crazy about this is if NP has to "overpay" to get Chesney because he waited too long and the balance of power in the relationship has changed. A NYC real estate guy wrote a book that came out in the 80's that explains all of this. I am pretty sure it is still in print. Let's just get this done. One would hope NP would continue with Rock as interim and keep looking for a coach before giving up balance of power or getting pushed around. But this whole concept is speculative BS anyway.

hc87 While looking at SHSU Head Coach Keeler I saw he went directly from D-III to Delaware where he had great success. It is not uncommon to make that move although you may not be aware of it. As an SBU fan I have been long aware that current Head Coach Chuck Priore went from D-III to SBU head coach and did pretty well. So if we hire a sitting and successful high level DII coach for our Patriot League FCS program we are in good company. It certainly didn't cause an issue when I was introduced to Coach Carter many years ago (nobody bothered with the complex explanation that the DIII champion team he led had once been low level 1AA or whatever that convoluted story was). As a SBU fan, you should know that Priore was a long time asst and coordinator on Bagnoli's staff at Penn. Thus, he did not just make a jump from D-III without experience. He was my recruiting coach there, and he was intense. Literally yelled at me on the phone for 5 monutes for committing to another Ivy during the recruiting process. Unless he has mellowed with age, the posters that thought Gilmore was "rough" on the sidelines, would be in for a surprise with Priore. No doubt prior to making the move to SBU directly from a 5 or 6 year successful stint as head coach at D-III Trinity Priore had other (non-head coach) coaching experience. No implication otherwise. And yes, he is quite animated on the sidelines and IMHO he does a good job for SBU.

Very cute. I see what you did there: Start with a religious reference/prayer and then finish with an obscenity. How about "God bless you, go to hell?"

What do you mean?
This is shorthand for John, Margaret, and James . . . why the fuss?

Who knows what has transpired in this process, but a "national search" resulting in hiring a guy a cab ride away from Mt St James isn't a good look for one Nate Pine. Is the purpose of a national search to disallow anyone near the school hiring the coach? of course not. I am afraid your conclusion is flawed. A national search could well have been conducted and Chesney may have been better than other candidates. If that is the case, I am glad that the AD was not foolish enough to eliminate someone, who many in the football community seem to know and support, simply because he is from Worcester.

It is the Fred Mitchell Award for being the best KICKER and not the best DANCER! !That would be ARTHUR MURRAY AWARD if it was for the for the best football DANCER: Hope I didn't confuse you with the Mitchell/Murray last name mixup. Apparently the Fred Mitchell award is a big deal in the world of kickers. Look at the films of his kicks. If it were the Arthur Murray Award, you would see footprints on the ground to show him where to step.

In Pine considering Chesney, the fact that he is lives in Worcester and is familiar with the city, local recruiting, and HC by proxy, could have actually been seen by Pine as an advantage which negates the "national" aspect of the search. Additionally, a quick transition might help salvage recruiting. I'm not pro or against Chesney, just speculating.

IMHO. If we take Chesney likely the talent pool was thin. Doesn’t mean he can’t be successful. He can. Go Cross Go!

IMHO. If we take Chesney likely the talent pool was thin. Doesn’t mean he can’t be successful. He can. Go Cross Go! This is a faulty conclusion. Maybe he had the impressive interview - plan. ADNP will hire the person he believes - correctly or incorrectly - that provides the best chance for future success. When hiring a coach, you are not hiring on past alone, but on how the coach presents a plan for the future. It is possible that - notwithstanding his impressive winning % - he is attractive more for how he articulated a detailed plan to win at HC.

I hope the bookstore has a good supply of THE CROSS IS BACK tee shirts for those who see this as a turning point in the football program.

Ironic that a few pages back on this thread reliable sources said Chesney got the bum’s rush from Holy Cross/Nate Pine and now we have even more sources saying Chesney is a sure thing.
I suspect if the truth ever comes out we will find the former sources were just wrong.

Thought we were just lectured by the Dean about posting info without sources. No more posts about "it's Chesney" without sources please. It's not accomplishing anything. We get it.

HE needed to hear an articulated, detailed plan to win at HC from both Pine and our Prez.
