Safe to say that Chesney has met (if not exceeded) all expectations through year 2. After 1 PL title in our last 18 tries in a 7-team league, he wins in Year 2. We are lucky to have him. And we will need him in a Patriot League that has a lot of young talent across the board with numerous teams that should be expected to improve greatly over the next two years. One thing that scares me -- is he someone that would already be on the radar of UMASS? Have to imagine that they are going to blow up whatever they have going on in Amherst. I think we're safe with Chesney for at least 3 more years.

Just make the effort to pay him what he is worth...or is that beyond what HC is willing to do if he builds the program?

moose, thought you knew me better and would have recognized the tongue-in-cheek, facetious (hopefully not too sarcastic) tone of my last post. Unless, of course, you too are just putting me on. Unless, of course, you too are just putting me on.
i guess that we just deserve each other!!!

Just make the effort to pay him what he is worth...or is that beyond what HC is willing to do if he builds the program? this is a problem with the holy cross football program going all the way back to head coach mel massucco in the '60's and probably beyond that. based on past performances the administration will wait until coach chesney is offered a better position elsewhere and then scramble to match it as he goes out the door. i believe that he was hired on a "let's see what happens" basis after they tried and could not hire a head football coach with "experience" WELL, NOW WE HAVE SEEN.
everything i see indicates that they should tear up his contract NOW and pay him what he deserves before f..ing this up again.

I agree. Pay him big time. Another place would have to offer him a ton of bucks to lure him away. Honestly, if Chesney stays a few years and then gets a big time gig - not UMASS, BC - Kelly at ND getting a bit ripe - that would redound to HC's benefit unless they screw it up. LoveHC forget e = mc2 today its college football = $$$$$$

I had an opportunity last week to take in an Assumption College football practice. Knowing nothing about Chesney's ability to recruit under the AI and put together a D1 staff, I couldn't help but come away thinking Chesney should be our next head coach. The organization, intensity, competitive nature of and excitement in this particular practice reminded me of Duffner. I would hope ADNP wouid take in a practice and game of potential candidates (if possible) as I feel observing a coach in this setting is more telling than being able to answer questions in an interview. If nothing else, ADNP would have insight into Chesney as a potential coordinator for another head coach we were to hire. Just my two cents. My now annual bump. š

For everyone talking about Coach Chesney leaving the program I would say relax. Coach is committed to what he is building. He is about winning national championships not just the Patriot League. These kids that just pummeled Fordham are āhisā kids. Heās not a quitter especially in regards to his players. Maybe one day heāll leave but not right now. His job is not complete in his mind. He will continue to add more pieces to his puzzle going forward until HC is playing in Frisco Texas for a National Championship. In the interim you guys can help out by contributing money to the Holy Cross Crusader Fund and call the football office with potential players in your respective towns to help with growing the program.

First, I donāt recall anyone here looking for our coach to leave but recognizing he will likely be tempted.
My own take is that he has put down roots in Worcester and also agree heās more than just about football and about values he tries to teach his players- including loyalty.
Second, going to many games as possible and being a charter member of the Gridiron Club as well as mentoring/advising some of the players, I also agree that not only helps our current players but as a side benefit, helps recruiting future Crusaders.

When Ches does leave, he's going a LOT better place than UMess. I guess itās obvious but I totally agree with this. Really found myself waking up today less upset over the loss and how we played than so impressed with Chesney and every aspect of their coaching. The team is so fundamentally sound, very disciplined in terms of not making mistakes or having stupid penalties, save for the taunting ones which I think are only when the team senses the game is getting out of reach. The play calling and halftime adjustments are amazing. It leaves me with the question of what is the appropriate next step for an excellent PL coach? Dave Clawson went to an upper tier FCS school (Richmond) as his next step. Moorhead went P5 but took the OC spot. Iām not sure whatās both compelling for him based on where he wants to go as well as what is available to a PL head coach? I do have to say that a really smart AD somewhere will be considered a genius if he takes the gamble on him at a higher level school. Heās really impressive

Heās really impressive If I am Temple, I would leverage his Pennsylvania roots, and go hard after him. Obviously not a great job, but Golden, Rhule, Addazio, and Collins all "graduated" to P5 jobs by just making Temple kinda good, and the AAC is about to get a lot easier with the defections of Cincy, Houston and UCF.

One factor in favor of keeping Chesney here is the departure of Marcus Blossom. A football-friendly AD goes a long way.

The main factor is is money. Chesney wins a playoff game he will more than likely be leaving if he wins two he will be gone. Winning another PL wonāt build any more value. The school will need to step up to keep him.

Very true money is the biggest factor. But if it's close other factors weigh in. If Blossom were still there the staff would have been gone IMO.

Thankfully, Blossom is gone. Let's just hope that next AD values Chesney and his staff.

Unfortunately Chesney is making it look easy, which itās not, but a new AD may say PL is not hard and wont need to pay big money to keep winning. Good times now looking forward to the playoffs!
