Hello from Dublin. It looks, from what I am hearing, that HC is thought to be the 4th seed at this point. I had dinner with 2 guys who are Loyola grads, and one each from Manhattan and Holy Cross (Rich Lutz - played with Tom Heinsohn). It was very interesting to compare notes about this year. Rich felt very strongly about our lack of effective rebounding. However, he only follows the stats on the HC website. I am trying to bring him aboard Crossports. I feel a bit like Palestine trying to win Luke ever to the “dark side” of the force.

Massey makes Holy Cross a 3point favorite (67-64) and assigns a 58% chance for the win.

Just for the record, he has Towson as a 3 pt favorite against La Salle (73-70), giving them a 57% chance for the win.

Hearing that the tourney is sold out Correct. Tickets are actually being scalped. This tourney raises money for “Sport builds character.” As I learn a bit more about this group, i’ll Pass it on. PS: that refers to premium tickets -for all four games. There may be some tickets available to individuals individual games.

BTW, those who got the seven day trip are all at one hotel. Of the 80 or so fans here, the largest number are from HC. The smallest number is from Towson.

Thanks for being our foreign correspondent in Belfast, Rob!👍
Didn’t 81 say he was going as well?
If I took anything away from Ed O’Donnell’s course, I think you are at a “Scots-Irish” venue but let’s hope our team plays well for Holy Cross’ historical Irish backdrop. 🍀

LaSalle beat a pretty good Temple squad on Sunday. It was the Owls first loss of the season.

RGS--- we really appreciate the on-site info and insights and hope you are having a most enjoyable trip---to be enhanced by a couple of Crusader victories. It is great so far...HC has not lost a game. The interest in American college hoops seems to be huge (but not yet rivaling any of the traditional Irish sports). A visit to Saint Steven’s Green and to the Dublin GPO was most moving. The Irish patriots in the Easter Rising of 1916 dug in on the Green. The British forces were on the rooftops all around that Park. When the Irish people did not rise up as hoped, it was just a question of time until this “latest” rebellion failed. They held out for 6 days before surrendering. One anecdote I had not heard before. The warden of the Green kept a flock of prized ducks in the ponds on the Green. He approached both commanders and they agreed to stop firing twice each day so the man could feed the ducks in a tranquil atmosphere. The flock survived the rising, but it was sadly explained that six ducks in all did give their lives for Irish independence.

that was the Easter Rising of April 1916 thanks, RSG a visit to Kilmainham Gaol where the leaders of the Rising were shot without trial is very moving.

Indeed it is. 14 of the 16 leaders were killed there. It was also the Gaol that housed captured rebels from 4 previous uprisings. It it so popular a tour that only first two tours have openings each day. The rest are filled by those who made reservations online.
If you get to Dublin, I also strongly recommend the Little Dublin Museum. It is a most interesting look at this city, it’s hard times, and the strength of the people who made it though those times and are building a revitalized urban center today.

PS: it was explaining in two sites that the majority of the Irish people did not rise up because they had men serving in the British forces during WW I. They had a difficult time appearing to disown loved ones who, in many cases, had enlisted to simply provide for their families. So they stayed back when their numbers were needed. I also learned how many women took up arms in the Rising, at least one of whom was executed as one of the 14 captured leaders.

Which ticket office told you there are premium tickets available? Anyone getting scalped is bringing it on himself. Tickets are available at the box office and will be available at game time per the nice lady handling phone purchases at the box office. Ticket touting in Ireland is not a crime btw Also were there not courts martial for the leaders of the rebellion? Weather 45 degrees. 🤧

I enjoyed professor O’Donnell’s online course. The reproduction “coffin ship” is a worthwhile tour...a vessel meant for 65 but carrying far more. This ship became famous because not one passenger died in its crossings (I believe there were 6 trips in all). Beside the river there are bronze figures of emaciated people slowly moving to board a ship. Some carry babies - most of whom did not complete the journey. The Great Famine took a terrible toll on Ireland and its people.

We are arriving in Belfast tomorrow around lunch time. Most were court martialed and then shot. Some were spared by the fact they were not British subjects.and their sentences were changed to long prison terms. There had been attempts to have that done it all cases, but most appeals for clemency were denied.

Btw, I don’t recall anyone saying that ticket scalping was a crime in Ireland. Did you think it was?
Premium tickets were going for only a Euro or two above face value. Perhaps that is because they were being purchased here and not online.

One of the few working post offices with cannon balls (or some form of ammunition that looks like a candlepin bowling ball) embedded in the wall
