Joe Scott would be a great fit for Brandeis. However, the school is very toxic right now. Not a good situation. The comments by the previous coach that started this whole thing has opened a can of worms and now the whole campus is reeling.

What a loser.

One kid from my town, unbeknownst to me, left the place, went to Lasell. A decent student too, and one doesn't transfer from Brandeis to Lasell because of the academics. Pretty sure he was involved at some point.

Likely done after reaching a settlement with Siena. School probably got rid of him for less than the contract guarantee.

Siena was waiting until late Friday afternoon to release the info to bury the story as much as possible. Both Patsos and Siena come across looking terrible over the whole mess.

According to the Times-Union, the school bought out the last three years of his contract. An Albany news station is reporting that he got paid roughly $350,000 of the $1.1M that was remaining on his contract. Siena had a lot of dirt on him, but probably not enough to go through a long legal fight to try to reduce the payment to zero.

Gotta get over to the Siena board, grab a cold drink and settle in for the night! A lot of posters over there now clamoring for Pitino, though one spoilsport said he couldn't picture Rick riding the bus to Buffalo on a cold January night.

Schools are getting real nasty in their efforts to fire basketball coaches to avoid paying what they had foolishly guaranteed in contracts. Look at all the recent talk about firings for just cause - Ollie at UConn and threats at Pitt and Siena. Now we have Utah State using a typo error in a contract. It would seem that lawyers for both the school and coach Tim Duryea did not proofread the original contract as it had items that contradicted one another: Both the contract and the offer letter state the employment term is for five years, but there is a contradictory line in the contract. It states that Tim Duryea would be employed “for a term of five (5) years, commencing on March 30, 2015, and ending on June 30, 2019.” The listed dates only cover four, not five, basketball seasons.

Hard to believe that lawyers on both sides could make such a stupid mistake, and their incompetence is no doubt being lampooned as the error comes to the public’s attention.
