Shows you how much of a sham this is. Concur. Offense was very disjointed many times. Confounding selection.

The age of participation trophies.
Rock's post game press conferences about the team "never giving up" and "playing for each other" after losing by 40 must have been viewed as an inspirational, selfless act by the AFCA.

Is he (or TG perhaps) active in the organization? Often that is all it takes to get these awards.

While we are on this topic, All Patriot League awards for special teams (non-specialist) is also a joke. I am sure Jack McCabe is a great kid, but giving him second team all patriot league is pretty ridiculous when you look at his overall production and the execution of this unit as a whole.

Talk about truly classless. The fact that somebody would take the time to take a gratuitous shot at a Crusader in this fashion is beyond pathetic. Anybody who watched closely saw that Jack McCabe sold out and sacrificed himself each and every time he was on the field. He was injured mid-season and came back to still break the wedge time and again on games late in the season. Decorum prevents me of stating my real feelings. LD '83

The award is a nice honor for Coach Rock. Congratulations. Why pile on in this fashion?

I have to think that is a troll...is that a picture of McBeath? Who else wore 43 in those uniform styles?

"Anybody who watched closely saw that Jack McCabe sold out and sacrificed himself each and every time he was on the field. He was injured mid-season and came back to still break the wedge time and again on games late in the season."
Isn't that the definition of a participation trophy? What football player doesn't sacrifice themselves on the field for the betterment of the team?
This isn't a personal attack on Jack McCabe, just the nature of the award he received doesn't make any sense. Does the award signify that Jack McCabe was the best (non-specialist) on special teams? He was better than Nick McBeath and every other first or second team performer that played on special teams? If that is the case, how is a freshmen awarded first team?
I apologize if I came across as insensitive, however, I truly don't understand the AFCA Assistant Coach Award and the Patriot League Non-Specialist designation. It doesn't make any sense.

Laughable. Will look good on his resume for next season. And will also provide cover if HC wants to retain him for whatever reason.

If he were to retain his temporary position, there would be no cover available.

I want to make clear that I have no animus towards Coach Rock and when he came to Holy Cross I think I recall a lot of posters thinking he was going top be a huge help in improving the program. He proved not to be a panacea for what ailed the program and his time as offensive coordinator was at best spotty and as interim head coach he did not shine other than his feel good statement.
I wish him much success but we can be pretty sure he is not in the hunt for permanent head coach at Holy Cross and this award is just a head-scratcher for me.

As I noted before , AFCA Assistant Coach Of The Year award would provide cover if HC is to retain him for whatever reason. No suggestion on my part it would be as head coach . The award is for assistant coach.
This could help him should he look elsewhere. No suggestion it would be for a head coaching position.

The way our offense looked this year at times, I am afraid his retention would not be seen as a positive sign...but he is only one part of the coaching staff.

As they say, Coach Rock was not part of the solution, he was part of the prob . . . . .

The way our offense looked this year at times, I am afraid his retention would not be seen as a positive sign...but he is only one part of the coaching staff. Beyond the offense looking like it was stuck in the mud for the majority of the season, he was also hired as the OC by the AD and named the Interim HC by the AD. If the new HC wants to keep someone like that on his staff, that signals trouble and that the new HC has not been empowered to build his own staff.

"The award honors assistant coaches who excel in community service, commitment to the student-athlete, on-field coaching success and AFCA professional organization involvement, and is selected by the AFCA Public Relations."

Tells us everything we need to know. He got 3 out of 4 check marks and just missed the one most of us would have assumed was the only one that counted.

Trying to score from about 80 yards with 1:30 on the clock at end of half tells me all I need to know. He threw a swing pass to #31 who fortunately dropped it before he got whacked. This was vs Lehigh, where all HC coaches go to clock mismanagement school.
