Immediate goals for program over next 5 years: 1. Consistently compete for and Win PL title 2. Win playoff games 3. Schedule as many FBS games as possible, preferably in other parts of the country. This will deliver the HC brand to more recruits in other regions. 4. Play well in FBS games. We did vs. UConn. BC will he more difficult. Syracuse will be difficult. Army is a game that go either way, but is certainly a winnable game. Maybe you should start here in the real world: 1. Achieving X difference in recruiting results in 1st full recruiting year ( Feb 2019 L.O.I. signing ), 2nd year ( Feb 2020 L.O.I. signing ), etc.,........ 2. Having a .500 season by 2022-23,.. ( 5th year of new regime; .earlier ?...look at schedules & other targets reached by program ____ ? ) 3. Breaking ( the current cycle ) of having back-to-back sub-.500 seasons for 6 consecutive seasons by 2027-28

Sounds like you've set some fine goals to track on your own as you follow Holy Crosd football

HC football will be fine with the "right hire"....we have suffered the last 25 years or so because institutionally we were terrible at adjusting to "non-scholarship football" and Gilmore was obviously not the guy to lead us out of this wilderness ultimately.
It's a mess of our own doing ultimately....going non-scholarship and a succession of bad hires/bad/tragic luck (who in some cases really had no chance...Vaas, Allen and Gilmore to an extent)....not entirely sure we can dig our way out of this.

Breaking ( the current cycle ) of having back-to-back sub-.500 seasons for 6 consecutive seasons by 2027-28 1. There is disagreement on recent recruit quality. Of the 12 frosh/soph receiving post-season Patriot League honors, 0 were from Holy Cross.
(I would pay attention to this year's December 20-22 signing period. Compare our early signing numbers with Lehigh and Colgate (traditional and recent Patriot League powers). This year could be a setback from the previous two years (which are themselves debatable in terms of quality)
2. For the "Goal is to Compete for the Championship in the Patriot League" crowd, a .500 record is completely unnecessary. For this crew your items 2 and 3 are superfluous. Lehigh won the Patriot League championship (not just 'competed for') and finished the season 5-7.
3. Here are two goals:
Win the Patriot League title with a better-than-.500 record within four years time. Win the Patriot League title with a better-than-.500 record and advance to the second round of the FCS playoffs within six years time.

". Having a .500 season by 2022-23,.."
Haha, this forum has just become comical at this point.

". Having a .500 season by 2022-23,.." Haha, this forum has just become comical at this point. Looking at our past performance (over the last 5 years) and the upcoming schedules, 6-5 will be difficult IMHO. (We've only done that one time in the last 5 years).
There are some who would be satisfied if we never get to that mark as long as we are 'competitive' (whatever that means) for the Patriot title every year.

Not sure how many or who is an ex-player on this board. This thread is gross and should be removed. If HC suits up against ND, everyone in that locker room believes they will win or they wouldn't be there. Anyone that has played a down of Football or a second of any sport knows that. Any person that looks at a schedule in 2023 and says 6-5 at best is a Jack Ass! An athlete looks at that schedule and views it as 11-0 and a privileged chance to compete against 11 worthy opponents. Really that is all there is the opportunity to compete the belief in losing is a nonexistent entity. Thank you. I think you're starting to understand some of the people we're working with here. It's absolutely laughable to hear someone say "success would be being .500 5 years from now "-- What the hell are you talking about?

Really that is all there is the opportunity to compete the belief in losing is a nonexistent entity. There were several posters who predicted our record would be 4-7 before the season even started. This does not mean they wanted the record to be 4-7 or hated Holy Cross or never played any sports. It merely meant they evaluated the record from the previous year, eyeballed the returning players and staff, eyeballed the competition, and made a dispassionate and accurate prediction. Given our history over the last five years and eyeballing our upcoming schedule I could see where we will have trouble going 6-5. I want us to go 15-0, beat BC, and be the FCS champions. Those are two separate thoughts. (Separate and apart from that every player and every coach should go into each game expecting to execute their game plan and emerge with a victory. Anyone that has played a down of Football or a second of any sport knows that.).
