Dick Lutsk said the injury plagued career of MP had hit another bump. Surgery on his shoulder today. Hope all goes well (again).

Must be so hard on Marcellus who has contributed to the school in various activities

Poor kid can’t catch a break. I looked it up and he played 47 minutes over 18 games as a frosh. Hasn’t played since. I vaguely recall that he also missed his entire prep school season due to injury.

He had shoulder surgery in October 2016 for an injury suffered in August 2016. I am assuming the new surgery is related to the injury that started in 2016.

He will be in my prayers and I wish him a full (and rapid) recovery.

What year of high school did MP miss? His last one or next to last?

Marcellis missed his 2014-15 post-grad season at Fishburne Military School due to a ligament tear, iirc.

Marcellis missed his 2014-15 post-grad season at Fishburne Military School due to a ligament tear, iirc. Was the thinking at the time that HC was lucky to get him because some others backed off him due to the injury? Or did he sign well in advance of his missed year?

He verbally committed in May 2014, as he was finishing his senior year. At that point, he was healthy, and ready to PG at Fishburne. Signed his LOI in November, don't recall whether he got hurt just before or after that.

Well, that sucks. Recovered from the knee only to wreck his shoulder. They should do with him what they did with Creswell at this point. Great young man too.

...and if MP is willing to forego an opportunity to continue playing. Criswell was on board with the decision in his case

Criswell did not have much choice. Marcellus may have.

Not sure why Perkins would have any choice. I suppose if the doctors say you're done and you don't accept that, you can get a second opinion.
I know there are plenty of doctors out there that will write down whatever the patients want, but if there is a legitimate diagnosis that any athlete will never play again (and I sincerely hope no 20 year old kid gets that kind of diagnosis), I would think the school would have the right to review options no matter how much the patient believes he can beat the odds
