I thought that male doctors, when examining/treating a female of any age, always had a female nurse/assistant in the room.

That is the standard protocol. It was one of his many violations. It is a sad situation for the young women involved.

Thought I read after MSU got complaints on Nasser, they set up procedures where he was not to be alone with female patients and was to not touch certain areas w/o gloves. Supposedly he agreed.
The problem was he violated those agreements and, more importantly, there must not have been any protocol for ensuring he followed those procedures.

Sounds like a lot of people had a chance to stop this and did not. I have to think that we are going to find out about a lot of coaches and physical therapists who had a clue. We might, sadly, also learn that more than a few parents chose not to believe their kids so as to not rock the boat.
This actually reminds me of the Hartford doctor who was molesting kids under the guise of medical research for years. His office was literally in the hospital and he got away with it. There were rumors about him that reached the hospital and were brushed aside. He was pushed out at the end of his career but never charged criminally and never sued. After his death, the new owners of his house found his cache of photographs and litigation ensued. A Courant reporter wrote a frank piece about his own experience. Sorry to say that the molester was an HC alum.
The sentencing hearing for Nasser was like none I have ever heard of before. Perhaps it will shine a sufficient light on the situation that parents and others will demand the ability to ensure their kid's safety going forward.

this story has legs and I hope espn stays on top of it. I saw their reporting last night and indeed, there are clear signs pointing toward Izzo and Dantonio. the old coverup (keep it 'in-house') stategy that has worked for so many years will not work anymore. my question is how many other schools will be investigated - we know MSU is not a unique case.

This happens everywhere including in Jesuit colleges. We all remember Q at USF.
