This feels a bit like starting the world from scratch following the destruction of society, and would have preferred to do this in a more orderly fashion, but with the crash of the old board this is likely necessary.
Many posters have long established identities that go back beyond the last rendition of the Crossports Message Board and I presume many would like to keep those identities on this board.
Right now we're going to rely on a semi-honor system for board names.
If you are not Non-Alum Dave, HC70, Sons of Vaval, bison137 etc. don't take that name. Leave it for the rightful owner. Right now, member registrations have to be approved. Send me a message using the profile link to verify your ID and the name you want to claim, then register using that name. If all seems in order, your registration will be approved.
If necessary, I can reserve names and only release them when I know the correct owner is ready to claim it.
If you are a little late to the party and your name has been taken, contact me through the board and I will try to rectify the problem to properly assign the name to the former owner.
Of course, maybe you're in a witness protection program or just tired of your old name and you want to abandon your former identity and come up with a cooler name for the new board. In which case, go ahead and register.
Hopefully the problems will be few and far between.
Sincerely,
Dean Vernon Wormer

First, are any of us on double secret probation? I have not used a new name and figured I'd stick with the "old" rgs318. Thanks for all of your efforts on our behalf.

Question for Dean Wormer: is their a difference between your "screen name" and the username needed to log on? I have tried entering "Non Alum Dave" as my username, and it didn't work (unless I used the wrong password, which I don't think I did). Thanks from the technically challenged one!

Nice job Dean. When I first registered in January I was not able to use spaces in my name so I was "saderfan". I updated my profile and am back to "Sader Fan". Looking forward to a new era on the new board!

Nice job getting this new message board up and running. Thanks. That said, I am feeling sorry that our old board has aparently gone up in flames. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for this one to catch on, especially since we are now entering a quiet time for Holy Cross sports news.

I can't tell you how many times I've instinctively clicked on the old link in my bookmarks tab for the past week. Glad to be back among you fine people.

Your username is the one you log in with. Your screen name can be anything else you choose. If you want to delete and start from scratch so you can have your username match your screen name, we can do that.

Dean Wormer. Thanks for re-establishing the board. I just happened to stumble across the new link this morning and register. Since the old registration process involved providing an e-mail address (just as the new one does), is there some technologically efficient way to notify users of the old board of the change by e-mail? I am not trying to increase your admin burden substantially and may be one of the least tech savvy posters----just trying to think about a way to "re-populate" the membership more quickly.

Xmass,
Not easily. As I just posted, I was not a moderator on the old board and it appears that the server on that board has gone down hard. All of the e-mail addresses are on that server, which is separate from the Crossports server.
If that board ever comes back, we might be able to do it, but if it comes back, Crossports will lock the board to prevent new posts right after placing a very prominent notice there to come over here.

Dean Wormer. Thanks for the response. I've done my small part this morning by contacting a few posters that I know

Is there a way we can help to get the word out? I only found this by going Crossports.com to see if there was any news about the old board, but I imagine there are plenty of people who just had the board address bookmarked and won't think to go to the "home page."
As it stands, I'll let the people I know personally about it.

Sarasota, With the old server down, you won't be able to get it from there. You have to have the picture either on your computer or on the web someplace. If you do, or you want to load another picture as your avatar - Click on the Profile link at the top to open your profile
- On the right side of your profile page is a link to edit profile. Click it
- First page that opens, should give you the option to link or upload a file as your avatar. Click the option you are going to use - upload if it's a picture on your computer, link if its a picture on the web.
- Enter the appropriate information as prompted.
- Click save.
The system will re-size the picture to the set avatar size.

I'm here. Sorry to see the old board go. This has to be, what, the third iteration of the Crossports board now?
