Yes, BC women's lacrosse absolutely destroyed us 20-2 back in February but they are not happy at all with their #2 national ranking. Turns out upstart and undefeated SBU is #1. And Stony Brook plays in the measly America East (or so this article implies: bcheights.com/2018/04/22/bc-lacrosse-deserves-coveted-number-one-ranking/)
(I was fortunate enough to attend the highly entertaining SBU v UMBC game last week and have never seen slicker passing or more behind-the-back shooting/passing as I did from the SBU women. Just one sample:

Ahhh, just one more example how you demonstrate your incalculable pride in Holy Cross. But for those of us who'd like to know, how is the Villanova women's LAX team?

) The SBU coach Shannon Smith was a 4 year All American at perennial WLAX power Northwestern. She became the SBU coach immediately after her graduation at N.U.. From her attack position at NU, she often controlled games and became a legend for great stick-skills. Also, she was a legend in the Long Island WLAX community, her home area, since grade school. SBU, with one of the country's largest lax stadia nestled in SBU's Long Island home, has been a significant institution in M's and W's lax for a long time, despite not reaching the top of the national polls. Knowing this, Shannon continued to cultivate the Long Island WLAX community throughout her college career in summer camps and other activities--extending her legend among potential recruits. Long Island, along with Maryland, is the hottest WLAX recruiting area in the country. To make a long story short, Shannon and SBU may be more entitled to enter the upper echelon of WLAX than BC. There's an old girls network of WLAX coaches whole Maryland-Nortwestern playing and/or coaching experience poviding the glue of its inrerconnected web. The current head coaches from this network include: Maryland, Northwestern, Colorado, Ohio State, USC, SBU and the Patriot League's Navy and Loyola of Maryland.

Hope you viewed the clip.
Why your fixation on Villanova? In any case, Google is your friend for that and all other LAX news.

No, Shannon Smith is the talented head coach at Hofstra and has been there since graduating from Northwestern. Joe Spallina has been doing an awesome job at Stony Brook. But you are correct that LI is a lax hotbed - the key is keeping the best of 'em at home when the Ivies, ACC and others are heavily recruiting LI.

Joe Spallina is also a product of Long Island.

It looks like they split up the men's and women's venues this year. Men are at Gillette (D 1, 2 and 3). D1 women are at Stony Brook. I would assume that venue was chosen way in advance; if they both survive and advance, BC will be playing them on the road regardless of ranking.

Dunno 'bout whining as the author goes into extensive analysis and due credit to SB for their success.
That said, hope we could someday be whining about our national ranking in a sport.

Dunno 'bout whining as the author goes into extensive analysis and due credit to SB for their success. That said, hope we could someday be whining about our national ranking in a sport. The article is titled "Without a Doubt, Lacrosse Deserves Coveted No. 1 Ranking".
To the author's credit he does pepper the whining with an analysis of relative strength of schedule and America East v ACC level of competition. Both heavily favoring, in his analysis, BC as more deserving of the current #1 ranking.
Reading between the lines he is annoyed BC is ACC and undefeated and SBU is America East and undefeated ...and BC is currently ranked #2.
And yes, we are galaxies away from this sort of whining (I noted the 20-2 drubbing we took at the hands of BC earlier this year.)

She is NOT the head coach at Stony Brook. It is Joe Spallina who dominated at Adelphi and has the best player in the nation. He also coaches in the MLL stonybrookathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=725EDIT: I see someone corrected you. I have interviewed Joe multiple times through the last five years or so and he is one of the best coaches in any sport and a straight shooter. I would send my daughter to play for him anytime!

The real story here is Boston College head coach Acacia Walker was on the same coaching staff as Belichick at UMass in 2010.
