For the last few years, since ADNP has been on board, the HC AA has had a year-end 'espy-type' celebration of our athletic accomplishments at Mechanics Hall. I'm wondering if they'll take a pass this year given the absolutely miserable results across the board. How could they possibly come up with a 'team of the year' ? which has been the major award in the past.
I hope they've decided to save the money and work on other things for 2018-19

It's going to be sad when our team of the year is men's soccer with a 7-9-4 record.

Total waste of money.
If extra dollars are flying around, they should be put towards coaching salaries and recruiting budgets.

This is pathetic - OK, posters, let's have some fun and come up with other teams that might be finalists in the 'team of the year' competition. I think they should give it to the 2017 baseball team because their accomplishments came after the show last spring.

This is a good idea, and will save the embarrassment of having to award a team with a sub .500 record.

since they probably will; not honor that '17 baseball team. I nominate the '18 baseball team I just hope the womens' hockey team is not the winner not to offend their players, but due to no fault of their own they play a D 2-3 schedule while most of our sports play D1

Didn't all the student-athletes on all the teams, no matter their W-L records, work diligently all year, balancing athletics and academics? I think their hard work and achievements, no matter that they may be sub-optimal, should be recognized and celebrated.

I think the top prize this year should go to the team that has most quickly moved toward full compliance with our new standards ridding ourselves of any imagery involving an actual Crusader.

Good thing 99.9% of students don't read this board and actually enjoy things like this as part of their college experience

Good thing 99.9% of students don't read this board and actually enjoy things like this as part of their college experience How do you know that this is something they actually enjoy? Maybe it's a chore for them (getting dressed up, being bused to Mechanics Hall, etc.), and they would rather enjoy their Monday evening somewhere else. Is attendance mandatory?

Good thing 99.9% of students don't read this board and actually enjoy things like this as part of their college experience I highly doubt many kids want to spend a full 5+ hour night getting dressed up and shuttling to Mechanics Hall for a banquet on the last day of classes when they could just be hanging out with their friends.

If this is the event where Champion beat out Malachi for athlete of the year a couple of years ago, Watching that video, it looked to me like everyone was having a good time, IMO

Going back 35 years here, but in my day, virtually every organization on campus had an end of year banquet/celebration of some kind and in athletics, I imagine the individual teams had something as well.
Having an overall athletics department celebration at the end of the year is just another one more of those and I'm having a hard time understanding why so many of you have such a hard time with the concept.

because so many of us are sick and tired of celebrating 'participation' when there are no successes to point to. Do you realize the millions of $ spent on our athletic program, if you were in charge, how would you characterize the return on that investment ?

Twenty seniors in the pre-Law Society. No one is accepted to law school. Party Time?

Hey, these are seniors. They all worked hard. Soon enough they will discover that "working hard" alone will get them very little and only results will count. No more "participation trophies" despite what the Holy Cross athletic department and administration would have these young men and women believe. Finishing in the bottom 10%-15% in many places will get you fired, not a celebratory meal.
Let them enjoy their last fling.

Only on Crossports could an annual positive, celebratory event at the finest venue in Worcester get kicked in the nuts by the usual suspects like every single other thing.
