HC has to go after players even when "we have no chance"..Once one or two of the players matriculate to HC, it will open the door for others...Obviously Coach Nelson isn't looking at top 50 players but to get get better he has to recruit better players..

I'm having trouble following HC basketball recruiting. Can someone provide a unbiased appraised of how Nelson is doing so far on that front? Are we expecting there to be signings at this point? I'm not sure what reasonable expectations are since he was hired and if these are being met or if it's too early to asses. Specifically, I'm wondering if he has had the opportunity to collaborate with the always helpful HC admissions department yet.

How would any of us have any possibility of providing answers to your questions? If it weren't for some people here finding postings by kids on social media, we would have no idea what is happening on the recruiting front and maybe that's the way it should be.

Right, and to me it seems a little "quiet" in general, maybe less of the usual word of mouth/social media/friend of a friend type of thing that we get on this board, but maybe that's a good thing. I don't know, just wondering.

At least once upon a time, the latter weekends of September used to be when priority recruits would make official visits. Also remember a couple of Coaches Nights in October when former Coach Willard would tell us he had to leave early to connect with a recruit. We are definitely in "the season". I'm still wondering exactly what kind of players Coach Nelson likes best.

With the commitment of Humphrey and a recent offer to Dorsey, a PG or possibly combo, do we walk away from Dorsey or keep adding guards?
Wondering if Nelson is planning to play a 3g offense and pressure m/m?
Hope to see a legitimate big, but the approach might be the best available talent and restock over the next few years
Exciting days ahead

Gray is a 6-2 point guard from Brooklyn who will be prepping at Cushing Academy. So we've gotten a late 2019 point guard, a 2020 commitment from a point guard, and in the last 24 hours have made two more offers to point guards. Doesn't look like Rabinovich (or any front-court guy) is in play any longer.

Can someone ease my concerns about the lack of 4’s and 5’s it appears we’ll be bringing in?

Can someone ease my concerns about the lack of 4’s and 5’s it appears we’ll be bringing in? Not to mention 3s . . . The argument has been made that Nelson got such a late jump into the recruiting fray that he couldn't find any bigs this year. Unfortunately, the early list of players we're supposedly interested in for 2021 doesn't have many bigs on it at this point, either.
I don't think any of us expected what we're seeing now - the last two recruiting classes with a total of seven players, only one of whom is taller than 6-5 (Sandy, whose best offer was St. Michael's).

Must admit I'm baffled by Nelson's recruiting strategy to date, maybe he's high on some of the bigs already in the program. It's hard to believe he would use all three scholarships that were available on guards.

Has it occurred to anyone that perhaps Nelson isn't impressed w/any 4 or 5 he saw as obtainable, and is going "best gettable players" route rather than burning schollies on major projects.

It looks like he is adding quickness and speed to the roster, and possibly strength and toughness, which could tell us a little of what he might be considering offensively and defensively. If playing a 3 g set he is going to need six or seven quality guards.
For this season we have LeSann, Butler, Copeland, Lowder, Wade, Reilly and Yeutter
The next year we add Humphrey, so there might be room for one more?
As possum said Nelson’s assessment of the current roster might be that he is comfortable with the current bigs in a new system or those available won’t make the team better? That allows him to focus on bigs in 2021 and 2022 and recruit what he needs after he goes through one season in the PL.
Building for today and the future.

Nelson made five offers that we know of to power forwards and centers, three of whom were "obtainable" (Thomson, Carr, and Rabinovich) but appear headed elsewhere.
We've had a major problem landing quality big men for several years now. And a lot of "obtainable" ones we've offered have ended up being good players in this conference - for our opponents (e.g., Foulland, Gregory, Klinewski, Gasperini, Andree, Mahoney). Aside from Dudzinski, Alexander and Floyd, have we had a front-court player make all-conference in the last eight or nine years?
