Praise the lord that St. Peter is tapping heaven's coffers to pay for the eponymous basilica in Rome. ______________ The podium banners are lying on the ground, and men on the roof are looking at what is the roof edge on the east side. There is no cornice. ____________ I don't want call attention to this by creating a separate thread, but, FYI, a brand new Holy Cross film about Pakachoag is now available for viewing.

KY I attribute my Osgood-Schlatter’s disease at least in part to going up the steps of Ste. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec on my knees as a 7 yr. old. Kneeling on the marble altar at the IHM motherhouse in Monroe, Michigan several years later as an altar server didn’t help much either.😏

I remember seeing so many doing the kneeling climb there. Some of them were more than twice my age but their faith was strong and their effort was something to behold. I, however, was not tempted because of the time it required.

A few years ago my wife and I did a hiking tour of some of the Greek Islands. Tinos is the home of many Greek Orthodox churches, including one famous one. Devout pilgrims will crawl on their hands and knees 2600 feet from the ferry uphill to the church to show their devotion. It's pretty stunning.

There was a very large collection of crutches, leg braces and other devices for mobility in the chapel, along with lit candles. The stairs were daunting for those who chose to scale.

Crucis #1 Thanks for the link. The steps in the picture seem narrower and steeper than in my mind’s eye but it’s been 64-65 yrs. so the memory has faded a bit...not for the experience but for the precise construction of the stairs.

It does appear that, yesterday and today, they have begun moving 'equipment' into The Jo. Delivery of this was apparently delayed. This equipment would have been bought by HC, separate from the construction contract.

You can now see some of the new equipment on the upper level of the Jo.

www.telegram.com/story/news/2021/03/08/holy-cross-monday-opened-its-new-recreation-and-wellness-center/4631941001/WORCESTER – Holy Cross on Monday opened its new recreation and wellness center, a 52,000-square-foot facility that cost $32.5 million to build. The Joanne Chouinard-Luth Recreation and Wellness Center is named for Joanne Chouinard-Luth, who along with her husband, 1974 alum John Luth, gave a record $40 million gift to Holy Cross six years ago that helped fund the project. “The Jo,” which is replacing the campus’s 72-year-old field house, will house the college’s club and intramural sports, as well as its recreation, fitness and wellness programs, and has features like a golf simulator and suspended running track. In addition it will be the new home of the college’s Office of Student Wellness Education, Worksite Wellness Office, and Office of Public Safety. Temporarily, it is also serving as the college’s COVID-19 testing site for the spring semester. "The Jo will be an essential component to the health and wellness of the minds, bodies and spirits of not only students, but the entire Holy Cross community,” Holy Cross President Rev. Philip Boroughs said in a statement Monday, adding he was grateful to the Luths for their contribution to the new building. The couple’s donation has also helped pay for the recent expansion of the campus’ Hart Center, now called the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. Attachments:

Exchanged emails with some classmates about the Field House and the new Jo today. One of my friends, a Worcester native, remarked: "So many memories.... Trying to beat Bob Cousy shooting free throws... an annual Worcester event growing up. He shot left handed!"

The webcam on The Jo was re-oriented this morning. It is now centered on the site for the next campus construction project, which is: A.) the long-awaited Japanese tea room, and garden of reflection, or B.) the costume shop for the PPAC, or C.) reconstruction of the surface parking lots and installation of stormwater detention chambers, or D.) the new Jesuit residence

I think it makes sense to have a security camera focused on that Jo gate... perhaps with campus security on that site it's not necessary.
