Ziobro was a solid HS player at Scranton Prep and in HC intramurals. Played in HS with Duke star Steve Vacendak, who played in the ‘66 final 4 that Texas Western won.

As you correctly state, Vacendak was a star at Scranton Prep and at Duke. However, he didn't play in the '66 final against Texas Western unless Adolph Rupp snuck him in under an assumed name. My apology you said in the final 4, not in the final.

Other than trading those course registration cards ("I'll give you a B+ McCann for a Duff"), my main memory from the fieldhouse was The Who at '69 Homecoming - a big enough deal for my roommate and some other hepatitis infected football players to sneak out of the Loyola Infirmary to see.

Favorite memory of the field house...
I had finished my day of student teaching at North High on Salisbury Street, spent some time studying and stopped in to see the basketball team's practice. As I stood there, dressed in suit coat, tie and hat holding my winter coat, off to the side of the "center court" I was approached by the assistant coach Jim Herrion. He said hello, how are you? I said good, how are you? He said good and then asked how can I help you? I said that I was just here to watch the team practice. He then asked who are you? I told him I was a senior here and had finished my day of student teaching at North High School and stopped in to see the team practice. He then laughed and said that Jack Donahue had sent him over to check me out because he thought I was someone from their next opponent scouting his team. He then told me that Jack was always very suspicious of someone he didn't know watching his team practices.

Jack was paranoid from all the NYC street agents hanging around the Power Memorial Gym to watch Lew Alcindor beginning in his freshman year,

You guys saw the Who in the fieldhouse. I saw Hall and Oates, kinda lame, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes--not lame at all.
Here is Southside singing "We're Having a Party," with special guest, the Boss. Sadly that's not at the Cross.

I think one of the highest profile concerts was my brothers freshman year 70-71 when Chicago played at HC for maybe $3 per ticket. As I was told the organizers signed the band and then between the signing of the contract and the scheduled date Chicago hit it big and wanted to buy out the contract. Maybe it was a matter of the band’s asking price going from $5,000 to $50,000 due to some big hit records..,,

Seals and Croft for Fall Homecoming in 1970 was the opening act for Chicago. The fans actually ripped a door off the north side of the Field House attempting to gain admission to the concert. Seals and Croft came back the following year in 1971, and played in Kimball Theatre. Regarding an earlier note, the Fifth Dimension was the Winter Homecoming Show in 1970. The Who signed for $5,800. The 1843 Club signed a contract with them in the late winter of 1969. The album “Tommy” was released in the summer of 1969, and by the time Fall Homecoming occurred, the album was at the top of the charts. The J Geils Band was in the Hogan Ballroom in March of 1971.

I think a petition to save the old field house is in order. Too many memories. If they moved it from Rhode Island, they can move it to Caro St!

Same can be said for local band that opened called "The Stompers" Another special guest from E Street - former Juke Steve Van Zandt

I have to start reading slower! My quick skim was that I thought you were suggesting taking it back to Quonset. Am I the only one who called it the "Quonset Hut" (at the time, I had no idea what that was nor where Quonset was) as I believe that was the way Fr. Hart described it. Bet you can't have it for $1 though!!

I thought it had been determined that the cost of much needed repairs far outweighed its value. No?

Anyone see Mountain with Leslie West in the Field House in early 70s? I did but can't remember the year.
