The upper campus road is still open. I expect it will not be closed off until after this weekend. Once it is closed, tranquil City View will no longer be such until at least the summer of 2020.

It looks like the building is still in tact...are they perhaps doing demo work on the front of it, which one can't see from that camera angle?

As of Wednesday night nothing happening outside, but fencing was put up around the perimeter of the building so you couldn't get too close

Based on the webcam, up until the past several days, there appeared to be workers' cars parked along the road. As noted above, I think they were doing interior demolition. I do not know whether anything from the building will be salvaged, and re-used elsewhere. I know for Lith, the contractor was required to salvage bricks encasing the Hart for re-use..

My daughter tells me they started tearing down the old fieldhouse today. I'll try to get a photo. A tear has been shed. Some terrific memories, esp hoops. Every time I see Boeheim I remember he and Dave Bing scrimmaging HC in the fieldhouse in ‘64.

I scored 100's of points in that building--of course it was in intramural or pickup games--but still...……….

The HC webcam provides a view of breach made to the east wall of the field house facing Hogan. www.holycross.edu/webcams/recreation-centerElectricity has not been shut off, so you can see the opening into the field house.

I think one of the highest profile concerts was my brothers freshman year 70-71 when Chicago played at HC for maybe $3 per ticket. As I was told the organizers signed the band and then between the signing of the contract and the scheduled date Chicago hit it big and wanted to buy out the contract. Maybe it was a matter of the band’s asking price going from $5,000 to $50,000 due to some big hit records..,,

I was at the Chicago concert, it feels good to find out I got a bargain. In the fall of 1970 I also saw James Taylor at WPI, which could have been a similar contractual situation as he was just taking off.
A member of James Taylor's band was the then husband of Carole King, and Carole King was there and sang. Shortly thereafter her Tapestry Albumn came out and she took off, if I have the timeline right.
Both of those concerts were packed but I walked downtown with a classmate to see the Beach Boys at the Paris Cinema. At the time they had fallen out of favor and the theatre was half full. At intermission guys like Al Jardine and Mike Love were out in front of the building smoking butts and chatting with a few fans.

Anyone remember the opening act to Chicago ? It was Seals and Croft. The concert was in such demand by the fans, they ripped off one of the doors facing Wheeler to get into the field house. After a a delay to restore “order”, the concert started. Seals and Croft appeared again in the second semester in the lower Kimball theatre.

Back to the field house demolition. They certainly are taking their time. I suspect that much of the time-to-date may have been for asbestos removal, which is highly regulated.
Having now punched a new entrance at the east wall, and I spotted a small excavator moved into the building through that opening, they may be excavating the water (and steam?) lines to install new shutoff valves. Just a guess that the existing valves are in the walls of the building. And if there is a buried steam line, it likely is wrapped in asbestos. Which will be removed.
Demolition of that building, if done enthusiastically, shouldn't take more than a week.

I went to the Fieldhouse just about every day of my college career for cross country and track practice. Monday to Friday practice was at 3:30 or so. Most Saturdays involved going there to get in a van and go to a meet. Sundays we would get together and run on our own. I can remember getting drinks of water in the lobby with the old school big sports page cartoons framed on the walls. The 10 lap to the mile track was nothing special but the facility was "good enough" with plenty of room for all events to work out. Ron Perry and the football coaches had their offices in the building and the football players were around lifting all winter and spring.
I wish the Fieldhouse was being torn down to build a real indoor track facility but it doesn't appear that such a building is a priority.

Track is clearly not what it once was at the Cross. However, it does seem the quality of the team is improving...small steps.

Interesting to note that the camera is a little bit "shaky"! The winds have died down a bit but were really howling yesterday! I had one of the highest recordings ever on my anemometer yesterday when a gust pushed it to 58 mph! !

Distressed bricks certainly have a resale value. Certain copper piping does too. Not sure what else is in there that has scrap value, but I'm sure there are things that do. No one who plays basketball will miss the rubberized floor; they wear you down big time. I was surprised that Marlborough High School, which I don't think is that old, had one of those crappy surfaces for their main basketball court.

When we'd have indoor baseball practice there, we were told it was 13 laps!

We moved into that school my senior year in 1977.....and at the time we thought that floor was way cool lol. It sure looks hideous today.

The grounds around it have changed since I last was there, in the late 80s or thereabouts; I figured the building was newer than 42 years old; more like 25 or 30.
Holliston had a floor like that, probably 2 different versions of it. 3-4 years ago they raised funds to make the basketball portion wooden. Big improvement.
