...at least he will be studying at the College of the Holy Cross, and not Holy Cross University! ah yes, the esteemed Holy Cross University of Worchester, MA! seriously, my apologies to hchoops and the board as i misread the maxpreps page for the glenelg country school win over christ the king. glenelg did indeed beat christ the king by 20 last year, but it was christ the king of nc (as in north carolina) not ny (as in ny). big difference there! that said, glenelg plays a very strong schedule and gabbidon will definitely be tested against great competition this year. if there remains mutual interest, i will definitely report on some of his games as i will get to see him play at least a handful of times this season. p.s. - thanks guys for the well wishes regarding my neck injury. this is probably the nail in the coffin of my goal to be able to still dunk at 40, but i'd happily settle for no nerve pain at this point. as 92 said, old man ailments catch up with almost all of us eventually!

Most recent piece in print media I could find: H.s. Boys basketball Hawks junior commits to Div. I program BYLINE: Jason Bernstein For The Jersey Journal, For The Jersey Journal, January 6, 2016 There was a time when Patrick Strzala couldn't imagine having the opportunity to play basketball after high school. What once seemed like an impossibility is now a reality for Strzala. On Saturday, the talented Hudson Catholic guard and Bayonne native verbally committed to Holy Cross. "I never thought I would get this far. I honestly thought basketball would end for me after high school," Strzala said. "But now I'm starting to see all the mornings that I woke up early, all the AAU trips I went on and practices I've been a part of, pay off and it's a great feeling knowing that I'm going to college for free at a great institution. That's a great feeling. There's no better feeling." Strzala, a 6-foot-4, 208-pound junior, selected the Patriot League school over Monmouth. He also had offers from Seton Hall and Cincinnati as well as interest from Penn State, San Francisco, Dartmouth and others. In August, Strzala was ranked as state's No. 13 prospect in the Class of 2017 by Jay Gomes of NJHoops.com. Holy Cross offered Strzala in July. "When I committed it was definitely a great weight off of my shoulders," Strzala said. "(Recruiting) was kind of nerve-wracking. I didn't know what I wanted for college. But then, when Holy Cross made me a priority, that's what I needed. I needed to feel comfortable, I needed the support and I felt it from them. "I visited there Aug. 8 and I just loved the campus. It was great to be around everybody - the players, the coaching staff. (Assistant coach) Kevin Driscoll did an amazing job, making me a priority in recruiting me. It's a win-win opportunity for me." Strzala, who said he plans to study either sports management or physical therapy at Holy Cross, also cited the college's academic prestige as a big factor in his decision. At Holy Cross, Strzala, is expected to suit up as a shooting guard and possibly even see some time at the point in head coach Bill Carmody's Princeton offense. "The education is extremely prestigious. Playing at Holy Cross and playing in the Patriot League played a big part (in the decision)," Hudson Catholic coach Nick Mariniello said. "Coach Carmody and his style of play is a good style for Pat and the way he plays. For him to have the opportunity to go to a place like Holy Cross, to play for Coach Carmody, to get a great education and to play in that system, I think it's the perfect fit for him." Strzala arrived at Hudson Catholic with the reputation of being a big-time shooter, but has worked on expanding his game. According to Mariniello, Strzala has improved his ball-handling skills, is a skilled passer and has even guarded much bigger players as part of the Hawks' small-ball lineup. "I know that I'm more than (just a shooter). Anybody can hit a few shots," Strzala said. "My basketball IQ is good, I know where to be on defensive rotations, I know how to lead a team, and passing the ball, I'm great at. I'm always working hard. I have a high motor." Strzala has averaged 7.0 points per game in two contests so far in his junior season. As a sophomore, he averaged 7.5 points and 2.7 rebounds to help lead Hudson Catholic to a fourth consecutive Hudson County Tournament title. Strzala averaged 6.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game as a freshman. Thanks, Matunuck. He definitely gave a verbal to HC in January but then transferred out of his high school mid-season. I'm looking for someone who would know to tell me if he is still committed. The fact that there is no mention of him anywhere since early February makes me wonder what is going on. Hopefully he shows up playing well in AAU action this summer if he is still committed.

Does seem a bit odd.....
If he's still in, then there's 3 open 2017 slots plus the leftover 2016. If he's not, then there's 5 total. Based on the 2018 news we've heard thus far, it seems the staff is open to holding onto at least 1 schollie. Maybe Will Powers can snap up one of them as well.

Hudson has long had a good hoop program...Bayonne, not so much. I am glad he committed (and read the nice comments by his coach), but I would wonder what the reason was behind the transfer.

Strzala probably left because Hudson Catholic has 3-4 high major prospects returning ,2-,3 at his wing slots. His shots and maybe minutes would be scant

No disgrace there, losing a possible recruit to Princeton.

Thanks for clarifying, WooGray - for some reason I thought we had offered last winter. I'd still like to have him.

It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall during staff meetings of the coaches to get a hint on what HC's priorities really are.

Evans' HUDL www.hudl.com/athlete/4550136/ramar-evansLike the complete game: threes off the catch and dribble, mid range game, the step back to shed a defender, finish at the rim, even one post up showing strength. Use of the left hand, on drives and passes. good vision, ready for the Princeton Offense with his back door passes i will take him

dado, hope you're feeling better, No dunking for me, I don't even try to get to the rim anymore. ____________
re: Strzala, 1.) why would a commit continue to play AAU ball, and 2.) why would a commit transfer from a school because he might be playing fewer minutes in the future at that school?

1- all rising seniors play AAU 2-if he is not going to get shots or even reduced minutes, he would not have a very enjoyable senior year

I won't speculate on why, but the timing of the transfer - in the middle of his junior year during basketball season making him ineligible to play for the remainder of the season - is curious.
