Not sure whether to be angry or sad. Nonetheless, I hope some good comes out of it. Maybe we'll see it on the field for tailgates sometime soon. Maybe Rotman's will buy it and install it across the highway There are many reasons to be angry and sad for things that have transpired at Alma mater in the past year and change.

4crusader3 brings up an interesting point. What has happened to the costume(s)? Both the latest and all the previous iterations? I was told from some "insiders" that there were multiple people that were inside the costume in any given year. Heck, I'd bid on the costume so I could enthrall my granddaughter!

I’d buy the costume so I could wear it to games.

I’d buy the costume so I could wear it to games. I can just picture this scenario if you did: Post Office type posters would be placed all around the HC campus with a warning to be on the lookout for this guy, detain him and take him into custody! !

Does anyone know how long the current crusader logo has been on top of the football scoreboard?

Maybe 10 years. Prior to that it was a fairly generic scoreboard.
For some reason I was on campus around the time it went up and took a picture which I posted on the old board. If we can't find anything in the HC archives, I'll see if I can find the picture, hopefully with a date in the picture properties.

1. Fr. Boroughs put himself in this situation, and an educated guess, Dan Kim (dis)ably assisted him. You either keep the Crusader cognomen or you totally get rid of it, including and especially the name. It is pretty hard to pi$$ off both sides or an argument (though I am usually pretty good at it) but by getting rid of the logo and keeping the name, Boroughs & Co. have done just that. 2. I suspect you are joshing here, but it was my post quoting the esteemed writers, all presumably deceased by now, of "The Tomahawk" student newspaper before it became "The Crusader" which was before it became "The Spires" (how uninspiring . . . and yes, that's a purposeful pun). The paper is now 'The Spire'... the plural makes more sense, at least to me www.holycross.edu/college-marketing-and-communications/college-publications

Absolutely outrageous and embarrassing auction. Are things so bad that we really need the extra 1-2k that these auctions will produce?
And even worse, who is the genius who thought there would actually be demand for individuals to buy huge scoreboard signs?
"The signs will be held on campus for pickup." ... Sure thing, I'll be right over with my 18 wheeler to pick it up!

If the school hates the Crusader mascot and what it stands for so much, why don't they just use the scoreboards as kindling? Wouldn't they want to eradicate them from society by removing it from circulation?

Can you imagine the hue and cry if the College had just destroyed the items?

Can you imagine the hue and cry if the College had just destroyed the items? In essence, they already have.

I stand corrected, 6774. You are correct, the title is singular . . . . . and stupid.

Perhaps they wanted to give "the Crusader" the "Shaft"? IMHO, i the reference was to Fenwick, it would more properly by "the Spires." I have not seen the paper since the title change (and I am in no hurry to do so.)

True to "Bidding For Good" form, the bidding has picked up as time runs down and for at least two Crusaders, well over the stated value as it appears someone really wanted to buy these (the baseball field, smallest one & the football field, largest one):
Scoreboard/current bid/stated value
Fitton Football - $1,625/$1,200
[dimensions: 126"X52"]
Fr. K - $600/$1,000
[dimensions: 118'X49"]
Johnson Soccer - $225/$1,000
[dimensions: 118'X49"]
Freshman Softball - $350/$1,000
[dimensions: 118'X49"]
Baseball - $2,000/$1,000 [dimensions: 94"X38.5"]
17 hours left to bid.

Reviewing the bid history, someone with a sense of humor (I hope) by the alias "myfamilywillbemad" won the Fitton football scoreboard Crusader to break a tie bid against alias "mbfb88aac" who obviously has a connection with the football team. "myfamily" really wanted a Crusader because he/she also bid and almost won the Fr. K scoreboard Crusader.
Despite being much smaller, that must have been a plus, not a negative for the baseball field Crusader.
So, the Crusader Athletic Fund gets $6,675. Just hope ISIS or the Taliban weren't the winning bidders.
Any Crossporters wish to go public if you were a "winner?"
