So, at the end of this season, who will be the final arbiter of the player getting this mythical award? Will it be another Crossports poll for us to all vote on? I’m pretty confident that the folks here would be honest in their assessment/vote and not just vote for who they picked pre-season. We'll bring this thread back and ask posters to weigh in on the contenders for the title. My guess is that a single player will stand out as the obvious winner, though I'd love to see a couple of players make cases for themselves through their play this season.

I picked Faw... to be most improved he doesn't have to shoot 40% 3's... high to mid 30's is just fine... his improvement would be to cut down on the fouls, block a few shots and rebound the D board to get meaningful minutes, 400?.
Would PB shooting 30% 3's or JF 60% foul shots qualify for most improved?

We'll have to look at each player's overall contribution in comparison to 17-18

I am more than willing to volunteer KY, since he created the thread and because he seems second only to Phreek with an affinity for stats and numbers, that at the end of the year when the post season poll is run that he also include a chart of comparative numbers for each player for this season vs. last season.
No need the thank me, KY!😊

I voted for Butler prior to tonight’s game - enuf said! But both Faw and Green looked to have improved, as did Benzan. We’ll see as the year goes by.

Lots of improved players.
Biggest improvement: JF’s passing and team’s 3 point defense.

Lots of improved players. Biggest improvement: JF’s passing and team’s 3 point defense. Who has our best assist to turnover ratio ? JF—20-3 his first 3 seasons—88 assists—118 turnovers

I think this is going to be a fun thread to revisit as hopefully we'll have some spirited debates about just who has moved forward the most. Looking at KenPom's "O-Rating", only one measure and an imperfect one, here's how that measure has changed from full season 17-18 to these first five games of this year. Again: just one imperfect measure that does not include defense or intangibles
Player: Last Year/This Year= Chg
Connor Niego: 81.2/136.3= +56.1 Pat Benzan: 99.0/118.6= +19.6 Matt Faw: 99.8/119.0= +19.2 Jehyve Floyd: 104.3/121.8= +17.5 Jacob Grandison: 98.7/106.9= +8.2 Caleb Green: 93.8/97.9= +4.1 Austin Butler: 102.5/101.1= (1.4) don't worry, he'll move this up)

JF—20-3 his first 3 seasons—88 assists—118 turnovers That's a remarkable level of improvement and I bet that figures intp JF's greatly improved "O-Rating" even though he's not scoring a lot more. Here's another guy improving that A to TO ratio: Jacob Grandison Freshman year: 61 to 55 5 Soph games: 20 to 6

I’m expecting a massive breakout for Caleb. Despite just one, lonely vote in the pre-season, a strong argument could be made that Green is the most improved Crusader to date. Other than his deep shooting woes, all the other numbers are better.
Category, TY (LY) Minutes, 36.1 (33.2) Points, 10.0 (8.9) EFG% 48.5 (47.6)
FG%, 44.8 (40.9) 2FG%, 59.5 (48.6) FT%, 93.8 (73.3) TRB, 3.5 (2.4) A, 3.3 (2.9) St, 1.3 (0.8) TO, 1.6 (1.9) PF, 1.0 (1.6)
ORtg 105.2 (94.8) DRtg 100.8 (111.5)

Nice to see that we have so many guys who have improved meaningfully that we can have spirited debate about who is MOST improved.

Years ago (perhaps before I started subscribing to KenPom and found sports-reference with real analytics) I used to look at a "non-scoring +/-" figure for players. I added rebounds, assists, blocks, and steal to get the positives and then subtracted the negative stats of personal fouls and turnovers. Of course this is a very flawed measure as we all know that a personal foul is much more damaging than a rebound is helpful. In any case, if we bring back this crude analysis we have another measure of player improvement and we see it supporting the case of several of our players:
Caleb Green LY: 1030 Minutes with 190+ (Reb + Asst + Blks + Stls) less 109- (Personal fouls and turnovers)= 81 net + = 3.1 per 40 minutes LY= +3.1 TY=+6.0
Jacob Grandison LY= +4.8 TY= +7.9
Jehyve Floyd LY= +6.2 TY= +14.1 this would be the highest number I can recall. Compare to Tim Clifford +5.9, Dave Dudz +6.2, Josh Sankes +5.6
Matt Faw is foulng and turning the ball over less often and has gone from (1.1) to +2.1

With the OOC schedule over and PL season about to begin, we are at a sort of a "halftime" for the season.
Not just based on the last game against Iona, but for the 13 games played so far, IMHO, while a case can be made for other players, it would seem that Grandison has been far and away the most consistent player and most all-around improved player on the team.
Full disclosure, I picked Kyle Copeland but a combination of lack of playing time, coupled with, and probably at least a partial reason for his lack of court time is his injury, l think Grandy is "most improved" to date.
Any other thoughts/opinions?

I would have said much the same thing. I hope Copeland gets healthy at some point (and that Niego's toe heals fully). Both can contribute this year, if healthy, as we move to PL play.

I'd have to go with Grandy as the most-improved so far, followed by Caleb Green and Jehyve Floyd

Bump. Current thoughts? Maybe Butler, but not sure anybody has made a great stride forward from last season.

At this point I will wait to the end of the season to see if anyone has improved significantly more than his teammates.

Maybe Kyle Copeland, getting 15-20 minutes a game of late and playing well, can make a late season surge and take this. He can help his case by starting to hit his threes
