Fordham beats Bucknell by 3. Lot of snow on the sidelines in Lewisburg. I think it was only family and friends in the stands.
Never thought Lafayette would get swamped (34-3)

I have watched a lot of sports. I know there’s some recency bias, but I honestly can’t remember a more resilient team.
Colgate: Down 24-0 in 3rd, lost 24-17 Yale: Down 21-0 in 1st, won 31-28 Bucknell: Down 19-7 in 4th, lost 19-16 Harvard: Down 30-14 in 4th, lost 33-31 Fordham: Down 10-0 in 3rd, won 17-13 G’town: Down 31-5 in 3rd, won 32-31
In these six games, we were down by an average of over 18 points and we went on to outscore these six opponents 118-13 the rest of the way. Very impressive and definitely an extremely strong culture and never quit attitude being instilled in the guys. If we ever learn to show up when the game starts, we may never lose again.

I fought sleepiness until we were down 31-5. I lost the fight, woke up and the score was 32-31

Hardy Congratulations to the team with an amazing comeback victory!
Seems like the team enjoys spotting the other team points, then carvers them up during the last moment, with a series of bizarre plays.. Truly a game of pysops with the opposition.
After reading the Georgetown board, and seeing a quip about applesauce, I went to the fridge and had a large bowl of applesauce to toast the team.
Well done Gentlemen!

It was an odd game in so many ways.
Does any know why HC was wearing purple home team jerseys as the visiting team?
I kept thinking of the Dallas Cowboys always wearing white jerseys at home.

This is strictly a guess, but I imagine that Georgetown elected to wear the white uniforms, informed HC, and HC wore purple.
There was a tweet a day or two ago that showed that HC would be wearing the purple jerseys today.
Update: here is the tweet; it was on Thursday.

Friends:
I’ve been following HC football very closely for the last 22 seasons. Have watched many of the games during that stretch (either on Channel 3, the various internet streams, or in person).
I’ve been a regular reader of this message board since the early days, though I have very rarely made contributions. I love this board and the dialogue and discussion it fosters (most of it, at least). And yes, I am a little crazy.
Personally I just have always been more of a listener than a talker and I naturally tend to keep my opinions to myself. Which doesn’t make me a good citizen in a community like this one which relies upon folks making contributions in order to keep things going.
With all this being said, I felt compelled to add my voice to the conversation today and share a comment or two:
• As I was watching the game today, I kept saying to myself, “this is the craziest Holy Cross game I have ever seen.” I never had the chance to see a replay of the legendary Princeton game from ’88, as I know the ending of that one was unreal…Perhaps 30 years later a few of the folks that played in that game decided to share the magic from that experience with this new generation of Crusaders during their regular mentoring sessions in the “90 Wide” Mentoring Program (a fantastic program led by the great LD and Spence, two of the finest Crusaders I know who have been paying it forward for many, many years).
• I felt after the final kneel down that the universe somehow had moved the a few levers and made a subtle adjustment to the grand script, having possibly taken into consideration all the painful things I’ve witnessed over the last 22 seasons, including:
1) a road loss at Albany where Gabe Guild, taking a handoff in the final minute of the game as the team was trying to hold onto the lead, was knocked nearly unconscious by a brutal hit, causing him to fumble and have an opposing player pick up the ball and run the length of the field for the winning score;
2) a triple OT loss at home to a ranked Harvard team five years ago;
3) Dan Allen, a very good coach and an even better person, losing his final game as coach to Colgate in 2003. Colgate came into Fitton undefeated that year and HC only had one win. Nevertheless, the players fought hard and nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Patriot League history, losing a heartbreaker 45-38. Colgate was NCAA runner up that year.
4) Going on the road to Hamilton 2006 with a chance to win the PL title. Taking a lead in the 2nd half, but missing two FGs late in the game and letting the lead slip away in the final minutes.
5) CTG, another fine man who is a good football coach and an even better person, taking his team to Hanover last year riding the momentum of a huge victory vs. New Hampshire. A back and forth game that has them tie the game on the last play of regulation, only to have the XP blocked. I think most of us know what happened afterwards…
I know “it’s just a game.” I am sometimes guilty of letting the sting from past defeats bother me for too long. Fortunately, I have come to realize that, at the end of the day, it’s all about the kids. Giving them the opportunity to represent the school and have the experience to play. It’s their experience. Yes, it sounds corny. But that’s what I believe it ultimately comes down to. Young men getting the chance to have this special experience.
We hope and encourage them to play with pride, effort, passion, class, and toughness. We want them to honor the past, and blaze a trail of success in the future. But, in order to do that, they need to “own the present.” I can’t do that, nor can the coaches, the parents, alums, fans. It’s up to them. They need to own it, and make with it whatever they wish. Again, it’s not about us. It’s not about me (despite how much I want it to be!). It about them.
Today, I saw a team that despite some bad mistakes, odd bounces, and tough calls, continued to play hard. Fight. Dig in. They focused on “the day.” The present. They weren’t thinking about my past history…or our past history. The Princeton game of ’88, the loss to Colgate in ’03, or Harvard in 2013. They just went out and played. They played for…whatever they wanted to play for. I don’t know because I am not a member of that team. They just…played. They owned their present. They won the day. And that’s the victory right there.
Hats off to the Seniors, and to the 2018 Holy Cross Crusader Football team! You have made me proud!
Now…let’s talk about what we need to do to shock Navy on August 31, 2019!

What an amazing ending to a game! Those guys didn’t quit and played hard all the way to end. And their efforts paid off and they got the W. A little over 30 years ago... According to Kevin Shea (who I think was the narrator on that clip) that ‘88 team won the Lambert Cup that year. I didn’t know that. Thanks for passing this along Breezy! I hope we are sending clips of this game to folks 30 years from now! You can see the end of the 1988 Princeton - Holy Cross game right here:

You can see the end of the 1988 Princeton - Holy Cross game right here: I was there for the victory in 1988. Great ride home from the game. Still my favorite all time uniforms, with the silver pants with the stripes on the legs. The coaching staff was sharp as well wearing gray pants instead of the ubiquitous, ill fitting tan pants that do not match any HC uniform color scheme.

While I never gave up, even when they were down 31 - 5, many of you did! ! If I had the time, I would go back and re-post all of the comments at that time! It would hilarious top reread them! ! There were so many regarding the OC, Jeff Wade, etc., etc.! Did we play poorly for more than a half? Did we turn the ball over too many times? Did we miss so many assignments? Did GT look great while go out in front 31 - 5? I could go on and on and the answer to all would be "YES"! Did we play with a sense of urgency? Did we make spectacular plays to keep drives going? Did Special Teams step it up today etc., etc.? Again, I could go on and on and the answer to all would be "YES"! Remember, the game is 60 minutes long and all that counts and is remembered in the end is the final score 32 - 31! And, we WON! ! Congratulations to the entire TEAM for a thrilling season that had its ups and downs but ends on a 4 game win streak! CBC now has something to build upon! May he and the entire team be proud of their accomplishments this season! The 2019 -2020 season starts tomorrow! GO CROSS GO! ! Also, you gotta love this... HC beats GT on a last minute TD 32 -31, while Florida State beats BC on a last minute TD 22 - 21 ! And, in one of the wackiest, dumbest things that you could do, a Harvard player flips the bird to a Yale defender before he crosses the goal line for the TD in the H - Y game. He was called for unsportsmanlike conduct (taunting), the play called back. Had he done it after crossing the goal line, the TD would have stood ! ! I took the trouble to re-read most of my posts, my friend. Can't speak for anyone else but I'll stand by what I wrote. We sure didn't win this game because of the outstanding job of the OC and as for Geoff, it was not his best game of the year or his career but it was his last so I am very happy that he and all the seniors went out on a 4 game winning streak.
I did post whether we could pull off another large comeback and later sweated whether we would pull a Harvard (come from way behind only to lose by a time expiring field goal). So glad for the team that our defense could stop GU from doing that with 42 seconds left.
Hey, enjoy the game at Mohegan tomorrow. I'll be watching on ESPN3. GO CROSS GO!

Harvard beat Yale 45-27 despite that TD being called back- I agree with the rest of your note: what a game for our Crusaders today!! Rob: Thanks for the "heads up"! My bad, I was too eager to conclude from the headline that it cost H the game! Have edited my post ... !

Regarding GW, he was not good for a long time, but to his credit he did get the ball to Dorsey and Ayeni when it counted and both made circus type catches, so kudos to them for getting it done when it counted!
Expect to be at MS before 10am! Hoping for the trifecta weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LD opened my eyes a little as to Wade’s winning %. He is in the wrong offense clearly. The OC’s contract should be thrown off the I-290 overpass. He is flat out terrible. We would be better off with Marino running screens every 3 plays.
