Apparently so. Can no longer win championships or even get to the final.

They have slipped from their absolute peak and AAC membership hasn't helped but still one of the best college programs in any sport of all time. Amazing that BG and GA started the same year.

They have slipped from their absolute peak and AAC membership hasn't helped but still one of the best college programs in any sport of all time. As of four years ago that was certainly true. They set the standard unrealistically high, but the last three years showed that even Geno could not overcome the harm of the AAC.

And we think we have it bad in the PL. Would UConn be better off like UMass as a member of the A-10 and an independent FBS football team?

No -- they are hanging on for dear life for any semblance of FBS football relevance. And if they cut ties with AAC Football to give indy, they would almost certainly park the rest of their sports in the Big East Conference, not the A10.

Now, not so sure. Despite DePaul's comatose athletic program and Georgetown's continued absence from the Big East stage (one quarterfinal win in six years), the 10 schools seem to be getting along and no one is clamoring for expansion. The Fox deal is set and the Garden is already sold out in March--what else does UConn bring to the table?

Zero shot the BE school presidents would ever agree to take UConn in.

A shot in the arm to women's basketball, frequent NCAA qualifying teams in minor sports, state wide media coverage, Geno's sarcasm?

While I trust your knowledge/sources, why would this be? DFW highlights the fact that the league is selling out MSG regardless and perhaps UConn adds nothing substantially incremental to TV contract value.
Hypothetical: UCONN never transitioned football up to FBS and was still sponsoring the sport in the CAA. Would UConn have ended up in the current Big East along with Georgetown and Nova? No reason to think they wouldn't have. And the current makeup of the conference is very similar to the original group of schools -- the one that invited UConn to join shortly after getting rejected by Fr Brooks and HC.

UConn would sell out Hartford for most of their home games. The BE would not mind that. And they would be a good draw for most away games, esp vs their old BE rivals.

Moved the latest specific UConn to the Big East reports/discussion into a single separate thread.

Zero shot the BE school presidents would ever agree to take UConn in. Wrong. Has this been ratified by the current BE prez's and BoT's? No. Maybe wait until it actually is before calling me out.

Agree it may be early, if ever there is a time to call out someone, but multiple sources say UConn to the Big East probably announced next week. Football? That's another story. We all need to remember that this is an opinion board. While some have greater insider knowledge about Holy Cross and perhaps a few other schools, once we get into non-PL discussions, most everything is conjecture. Definitive sounding statements are still opinion. Even our resident experts in football, basketball, LAX, whatever, are expressing opinions. That makes for entertaining discussions but we shouldn't take to the bank what anyone says here. Possible exception, Phreek.

Freak said HC would never hire a FB coach from D2. He's far from infallible.

ACTP, you did see the emojiis, right? It was a joke. No one is infallible - except the Pope in matters of religious doctrine.
