Copeland will be a factor. Starting Freshmen backcourt, esp Wade,. may have to wait a while. Butler could play a two guard. Hargis could contend.

Agree on Copeland who truly could be addition -think he is a stronger defender than our recently departed and will be hungry to impress. A few inches shorter but not in length. butler is a 2/3 all year long and contrary to all negative comments last year and this spring is and would have been our best returning player-we could lose the other two, we could not lose Butler thinking Harris and Pridgen will battle for minutes question is at the 5 and thinking both Lovisolo and Verbeek will get minutes at least early in the year i don’t discount Yeutter in the pg rotation at some point

Virtually all his numbers were down last year, and he was the most contact-avoidant player on the team - he took 60 shots from the field, but just 3 FTAs (36 FGA in conference, zero FTA). I like his speed and he may be the most likely to adapt well to m2m, if Nelson goes that way.
I'm hoping we are a much more physical team that invites contact - other than Butler, I am not optimistic about the rest of the returnees on that score. It would be nice if somebody could emerge as a tough, aggressive, in-your-face defender, who can mix it up inside.
Have I mentioned that I like Pridgen?

According to Carmody, Copeland was most the improved player on roster going into last season and despite numerous opportunities never was able to become a consistent productive player. The freshmen better be good because the majority of the returning roster is brutal.

All depends on the new system and I believe while Copeland and others could shoot, they weren’t ideal PO players. A new style might show an entirely new set of offensive skills. Defensively and rebounding, if taught to the roster, they could be much improved.

If we are relying on Copeland to be a key guy for us next year, it is wishful thinking rather than a product of what he has shown on the floor.
11-39 3PT FG last season. Didn't really show a whole lot else.
Hopefully he has made strides going into his junior season.

I seem to remember hearing that JG was not that good...that he would never get a scholarship to any B1G team, and certainly not to Illinois. How did that talent evaluation work out?
There is talent here and we are yet to see how well our new coaches bring it out. True, none of them has yet scored this year...but it is also true that they are still unscored upon. I enjoy hearing about the opinion others have of our players and our team. But I am sick and tired of hearing how we have no talent returning. Why not give our players and our team a chance?

There is talent here and we are yet to see how well our new coaches bring it out. Fingers crossed there is some talent that here that has yet to emerge with returning players and incoming with the freshmen. We don't have any player on the roster who has sniffed an All-PL (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) team, so it's understandable why some posters are resigning to being one of the bottom teams in the PL next season. Brighter times ahead, I hope.

thinking both Lovisolo and Verbeek will get minutes at least early in the year i don’t discount Yeutter in the pg rotation at some point As a generalization and without any comment about either individual, it is very rare for walk-ons to get anything other than a minute or so of garbage time

Agree with you and in about 95% of the cases you are correct
However, based on nothing I have heard or know, I think positions will be wide open in October.
Creating opportunities in a new system, whatever that will be, can often present some surprises.
I watched one of them play in high school and think he might be a much stronger practice player this year which could lead to some minutes. We need inside play, and the bigs, especially at our level, develop over time so let’s see how things develop
Anyway we likely will see some unevenness in play throughout the season, but I believe this will be a team that is exciting to watch as they learn how to win.

I wonder if Lovisolo will get some minutes based mainly on his size. We have a lot of skinny players who will probably get pushed around based on their lack of size. We need some bangers in the paint. Someone cut from the Sankes, Whearty mold.

Has he gotten a lot bigger/stronger since then?

Heard, but do not know it to be true, he spent a significant amount of time in the weight room and added bulk
Others may know more or if what I heard is true or false

Whearty & Sankas are in different area codes size wise, however Whearty did change zip codes after his freshman season
I did see Yeutter and Verbeek at the presser, when Nelson introduced them to his young. The both looked very fit... Verbeek had some nice definition but couldn't he looked bulkier

Good one, KY. I remember my mom, many years ago, wanting to see my room in Wheeler to sense the appropriate "style." My uncle helped me move in. He took one look and said "Military surplus could work well. I think I used that bunk bed in basic training."
