Not sure if this is fact but a Providence fan told me that he heard that the Friars are coming to the DCU Center next year to play HC. If anyone has heard this let us know. My friend could be wrong about this.
The PC series with both Boston College and UMass come to ends this season and it is being reported that they will not be renewed for play next year. A recent Providence Journal article included some PC scheduling news. It however did not mention Holy Cross. It is also worth noting that two other local RI colleges (Brown and Bryant) that PC has played of late were not on this year's schedule. Some have speculated that PC has or will drop these local opponents because their computer numbers have hurt the Friars strength of schedule by just playing them and losses to three of them in recent years made things even far worse.
PC has played Boston College in each of the last 13 seasons and the University of Massachusetts in the last six, but both of those series are ending. There are currently no plans to re-sign contracts with either school, at least for the 2019-20 season.
PC’s nonconference schedule for next season is anchored by a three-game trip to the Wooden Legacy in Anaheim, Calif., a road game at Rhode Island and a home date against Texas. The Friars are also planning on taking part in the Gavitt Games series against a Big Ten opponent and will host the Longhorns in the inaugural Big East vs. Big 12 series.
That lineup leaves one more opening for a major conference opponent and it’s no secret that, if the Friars have their choice of a New England-area foe, they’d like to start a series with Connecticut.

That Centrum ND game was in 1984, not 1994....decent game...Tim Kempton Sr (was the kid at Lehigh Jr? I forget) led ND that night...was there. I was also. Ernie Floyd played center for HC. ND won but it was competitive. You can guess for whom I was rooting. I attended both the Maryland ( Lefty Dreisel ) and ND games. This was before the Centrum was expanded from 11,000 to 13,000 capacity.
AIR, the crowd for the ND game was 9,000+.

On a Friday night too....believe me, memory (particularly from that era) is not that good....looked it up Year before ('82-'83 season) Len Bias was not yet on Maryland btw....they did have Adrian Branch I believe. That was a very solid HC team in '82-3...Logan, Godbolt, Floyd etc....missed dancing by a point to that freakin' Pitino's BU.

'87, I think you're thinking of Adrian Branch, who I believe played in that game. Adrian Dantley, of course, had the "sheet" kicked out of him by Mike Vicens (as told by Mike lol).

The UMass attendance figures are impressive. Despite Calipari being a complete knucklehead he had the state behind him. Fun times.

IIRC Duke was going to come play at the Centrum RW's first year. Dick Reagan arranged the game before RW was hired (I don't know what we agreed to give up in return) - but as I remember it RW cancelled the game after he was hired. Never heard about this but definitely not impossible. Coach K did occasionally schedule road games against smaller schools into the mid-90's. Most recently they played at Army in 1998 (K's alma mater), at Northeastern in 1995, at Canisius in Buffalo's downtown arena in 1992 (Christian Laettner's homecoming) and at Harvard in 1991. They played William & Mary and Davidson home-and-home as late as 1990.
Coach K used to do that occasionally if those schools were near one of his players' hometown (like Canisius). I think there was a New England kid on the Duke roster for at least one of those games in Boston. Kind of like recent suggestions of a northern California trip for the Grandisons.

I went to that game at the Centrum. I did not see the ND game the following year as it was over break.

Ahh, that's right; Branch and Bias did play together at least one year. My recollection from listening at home was that Bias did get some limited playing time that night.

UNC women played at the Hart around 2000 for Jess Gaspar (Dartmouth, MA native)
