So pumped to have Coach G back in the Pat League, where he belongs. Still love Coach Chez tho. So tight.
Been thinkin' bout the QB sitch for the Sades headin' into twenty-nineteen. If we are gonna go the transfer route, I think Jalen Hurts play could, maybe, if things go right, translate well to the Patriot League. We are already the PLC front-runners but adding Jalen would make us even more of a front runner.
Now, I already know what the naysayers on the board are gonna say: he doesn't fit our offense.
To that I say, maybe. But let Coach Chez be the judge of that.

mm67, Surely you realize you are asking for trouble here. No?

mm67 - Jalen Hurts is the now former starting QB for Alabama. Tua came in for him in last year's national championship game to beat Georgia and he was 2nd string this year (though he did have one miraculous comeback). Recently announced (as expected) that he would be transferring captain - also love the enthusiasm. Fitton is similar to Bryant-Denny, no? Can't see a reason why he wouldn't be interested

Isn't Hurts graduating? We have no grad school to accept him. Of course, I know it was all in fun....

I believe the transfer QB route may be the best way to go....doesn't seem like the players behind Wade have shown much (admittedly from what very little I've seen)....is Butash ready to take on 2 FBS programs in his first few games??? I hope so but it does seem like a baptism by fire.

Too bad we are not in the situation where we routinely scoop up 3rd string transfers (who still have pro dreams) from places like BC and Syracuse, that would really help us. Especially QB right now. That is a normal practice for much of the CAA (I know we are not the CAA).
As far as playing a newbie (frosh or otherwise) QB against the two FBS teams next year, it really makes little difference in terms of player development/player evaluation/chances of winning. Those games, I've been told, are scheduled for a different purpose.

Georgetown is led by a transfer QB from Arizona. Hoyas ranked 121st in total offense this year.

When was the last time Holy Cross football had a contributing transfer at ANY position?
I’m thinking back to 2006 and not one individual comes to mind.

Tom Brady considered transferring during his tenure at Michigan. Finding someone like him under a rock somewhere is highly unlikely, but a transfer of a reserve QB from a higher level program makes sense if one can be found who can get through admissions. If Stanford or Northwestern have a frustrated chucker he should be able to get in and you couldn't ask for a better opportunity to compete for the starting position than Holy Cross where there is no incumbent signal caller.

Georgetown is led by a transfer QB from Arizona. Hoyas ranked 121st in total offense this year. Arizona was so bad this year that they actually had to turn to Rich Rodriguez's son at the QB position. So yeah, the second part seems on point.

Georgetown is led by a transfer QB from Arizona. Hoyas ranked 121st in total offense this year. 5-6 this year...have to go back to 2011 for a better Georgetown W-L record. (I read about him last year and don't think he was a super Arizona recruit with designs on the NFL [FWIW] )
____________
Since we're talking QB transfers (who tend to be fairly bright folks) there would be no need to confine our search to third stringers at the most academic (Wake, Vandy, Stanford, ND, Northwestern, Duke, BC, etc) FCS schools.
Gill Finnerty, after all, was from LSU (I know he went to a Jesuit high school, was not a QB, and the self-defeating Patriot A.I. was not in place.)

Admissions would have probably denied Gil the Thrill. They would have thought his nickname didn't make him sound all that intelligent....
Dan Allen had the two Grambling transfers....David Thompson and Erick Stewart. Stewart was a QB and played well when Brian Hall got hurt in 2000 I believe.

The 5 wins were pretty much secured by GU's very good defense. Remember vs HC they intercepted several passes and the game was won by HC by two blocked punts.

So it's been at least 15 years since HC brought in a contributing transfer football player.
Wonder if this is because of admissions or was it a TG administration issue? Cant imagine over that time that there haven't been quality student athletes who have inquired. I knew MANY regular students who transferred into HC as sophomores or juniors.
Last two big transfers I remember contributing to major sports were Jordan Cyr (Mens Hockey, Union College), class of '10 and Mike Cavataio (Mens Basketball, St Johns), class of '11. Probably missing one from more recent times.

Ohio State's Tate Martell is on the transfer portal. The Buckeyes owe us a player.

Assume Don Matheney is your referenced player. He left HC and walked on at OSU and got into maybe 3+/- games when they got to be routs. Not sure that qualifies as them "owing" us but, then again, you may be referring to another player.

Not sure that qualifies as them "owing" us but, then again, you may be referring to another player. It really doesn't matter whether he became an all Big-10 player at TOSU or whether he was a practice player who only saw a few snaps when Ohio State was murdering Kent State or Louisiana-Lafayette, What matters is that Don might well have become a big contributor at Holy Cross. We lost much more than TOSU gained. Of course, no school "owes" another school for transfers--it's just an expression...
