1) Kind of a cool idea
2) I seem to recall last shutdown that one of the service academies had an issue with playing a game. Maybe "non-essential" flights were not allowed. I might have details wrong, just a vague recollection

I might have details wrong, just a vague recollection My recollection, and I was closer to the issue than you likely were, was that whether the service academies competed depended on whether the respective athletic association was paying the expense (in which case they could compete) or the government (in which case they couldn't). However, in the current shutdown, the only academy that is affected is the Coast Guard Academy, and maybe the Merchant Marine Academy.
