Dean Wormer: can you move this thread under a new header named "more regurgitated Carm bashing" as that's all this thread, like most others, has become. Coach made a comment about rebounding. Posters responded with facts and statistics about rebounding. If that’s not fit for this thread on the holy cross basketball message board, perhaps the board should be shut down? I, for one, enjoy the basketball commentary!

Supporters of the program were growing very restless with Milan Brown in his fourth season as coach, which was justifiable. Why isn't there similar outcry for the poor job Carmody has done through 3.5 seasons? There is no outcry because they won a championship in his first year, then had what I consider to be a disappointing second year. In year three, they (he was) were able to ward off non-basketball distractions and finish fourth in the league tournament, without a senior on the team. This year is not over, but I would expect that they will finish higher than your predicted 16 wins total, and do so with having five sophomores out of their top seven players. Unless there is a monumental collapse during the rest of this season, I expect the coach to return next season.

If the season finishes on the current trajectory (middle of the pack PL finish, ~14 regular season losses, not winning the PLC), would you want to bring back a 67/68 year old head coach with only one year on his contract? If not, do you think a 4-year record below .500 would make Carmody worthy of receiving a contract extension?

I think a lot of the outcry for the removal of MB was a counter reaction to the incessant cheerleading oh HC70, wonder where he'd be on this issue ha/ha. Don't think Carmody was forced to recruit last spring that was his choice in my opinion should only have recruited players ready to play immediately or held scholarships till fall. A whole lot of our issues go back to the disastrous junior class, we tried and failed to recruit big men Brodeur, Gasperini, Andree and Mahoney and also lost Nelson. Making it worse four of the five ended up with PL rivals.

I was about to say how many players does HC recruit who can contribute immediately but 4 did last year. If he held the two scollies over, he and his staff would have had 6 more recruits in one class to go along with the 6 in the class of 2021. How weird would that be. Or he could have opted to hold the 2 for 2 years to start evening out the roster. An addition to my first point is he didn't know he would have 2 scholarships to give until the end of February when recruiting for the class of 2022 had pretty well wrapped up. Must have made it next to impossible to find a kid or two who could pass Admissions and contribute on the court right away. Maybe Hargis and Verbeek will turn out OK or better down the road.

If Coach BC comes back next year to fulfill the last year of his contract, I will feel good for one reason. I get nervous about paying two coaches at the same time. I know it's not my money and it's a fact of life in College sports, but wasted money upsets my natural frugality.
Given his performance, I would not endorse an extension at this time. If he comes back next year and succeeds, and still wants to continue instead of retire, I would suggest going year to year.
It would be nice if HC had a generally understood understudy waiting in the wings, like Josh McDaniels with the Patriots, to ease anxiety of recruits. But that concept applies best in winning programs.

Carmody's keys for the BU game: - "Stay within 10 rebounds." After Lutsk started to laugh, Carmody replied with, "No, I'm serious."
This actually sounds more reasonable when you realize that your 2nd big guy is not dressing for the game
