"We sittin' in here, I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we in here talkin' about practice. I mean listen, we talkin' 'bout practice. Not a game, not a game, not a game. We talkin' about practice. Not a game, not a, not a, not the game that I go out there and die for, and play every game like it's my last. Not the game. We talkin' bout practice, man. I mean how silly is that? We talkin' bout practice. I know I'm supposed to be there, I know I'm supposed to lead by example. I know that, and I'm not shovin' it aside, you know, like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I do. I honestly do.
"But we talkin' bout practice, man. What are we talkin' about? Practice? We talkin' about practice, man. [Reporters laughing] We talk -- we talkin' bout practice. We talkin' bout practice! We ain't talkin' bout the game, we talkin' bout practice, man. When you come into the arena, and you see me play, you see me play, don't you? You see me give everything I got, right? But we talkin' bout practice right now. [Reporter: 'But it's an issue that your coach raised.'] We talkin' bout practice. Man look, I hear you, it's funny to me too. I mean, it's strange, it's strange to me too. But we talkin' bout practice, man. We not even talkin' bout the game, the actual game, when it matters. We talkin' bout practice."

I didn't look it up to confirm, but I seem to recall there was a different interview on the same topic where Iverson said he didn't need to practice because he had accomplished everything there was to accomplish in the game. He had won an MVP. He had won a scoring title.
As foolish as he sounded in this interview, I thought Iverson's comment that an MVP and scoring title counts as accomplishing everything was way worse.
Towards Crosser's point, it was posted in Crossports that most of the guys were going to be in town for about six weeks starting some time in June

Although I've always been of the mind that you can't hear the Iverson "practice" rant often enough, I recently watched some Showtime special on Iverson that led me to consider how his experiences growing up may have impacted how he turned out. It definitely led me to view his accomplishments and antics from a different perspective. Anyway, thanks Tom for providing the info that most of the team is around Worcester this summer. What I'm still wondering is whether we're holding official practices like UMass was apparently doing in that link I originally posted. I'm surprised that there has been virtually nothing posted on what the team has been doing this summer. Maybe I missed something; I still haven't entirely figured out the new Crossports. Maybe the heat's getting to me. Maybe I'm just losing it. Help!

I think NCAA rules allow for team practices out of season when school is in session...UMass must have a summer semester, which HC does not have...Could be wrong on this..

They can have individual work and team practice with coaches. UNH has summer session which the team participates in taking one or two courses.

I guess the logical next question is when exactly will HC start offering courses in the summer? They would certainly benefit athletes but they could benefit the whole student population as well.

For anyone unclear about the rule, it allows only two hours per week on any kind of skills instruction. In total, it allows eight hours of "practice" but most of that is limited to strength and conditioning plus film review.

And the league or tournament has to be approved by the NCAA, of course

Yes, summer league play is irrelevant to this rule - since the rule only addresses practice time supervised by the coaches.

I just looked at the NCAA bylaws, and I don't think the school has to have a summer session to have summer practices. The relevant part of the rule says: Exception to Summer School Enrollment—Academic Requirements— Basketball and Football. In basketball and football, a student-athlete may participate in required summer athletic activities for up to eight weeks (pursuant to Bylaw 17.1.7.2.1.5.1 or Bylaw 17.1.7.2.1.5.2, respectively) without being enrolled in summer school, provided the student-athlete has achieved a cumulative minimum grade-point average of 2.200 (based on a maximum 4.000 . . . ) and has successfully completed the following academic requirements based on the applicable number of full-time terms of enrollment: {goes on to list required number of credits - a standard that every PL student-athlete would have easily exceeded).

Believe the limit is two hours with the coaches. Regular practices start 42 days before the first game with a limit of 30 practices. Our first game is Nov 11th so we start practice September 30th. (It's what I've seen posted and not verified any of this, but believe it.)
Apologies took the stuff out that does not belong here.

A friend invited me to a practice and was impressed and will say some of our forwards that were injured last year looked good. Dejon and Baldwin looked excellent. With this depth perhaps they can stay healthy with limited minutes. Are you talking about UMass ? this thread was about HC the UMass thread you also posted on was on their team.

Guess the rule changes for all NCAA D1 do not apply. I use to post a lot as UMass and then Steve81 with the old board. Advocate UMass play HC and went to the HC victory over St. Joes. See no one posted about you guys practicing, so guessing they are playing pickup ball.

Did hear about the Hart Center renovation and will have to look it up*. My memory was that you guys were please with the plan, but only sporadically check this board.
*Looked it up and that is huge to have an indoor practice facility in New England. We need one badly and thought it was going to happen, but conference re-alignment started to heat up and looks like stadium expansion would be the primary focus. That said hear 40 Million was the upper limit and yet you guys got that great donation from Luth, 32.5 million and the total project is double what we'd be spending, 95 Million. Congratulations! 59.5 Million raised through June 2015.

I am surprised that UMass made the decision to upgrade football and then, for some reason, appears to be trying to cut corners financially.
