Don't have to be in the portal to want to transfer. Perry's in a heated battle for the backup position at BC. Smart move by Perry to get out.

Roster has him as a junior. (From Andover, Mass) Wouldn’t he have to sit a year before being eligible ? BC’s roster lists 66 redshirts. Perry is not one. He has the right name for HC.

If Chesney can close this deal, '87 owes his Kingdom. I'm betting on Coach and our endowment spiking.

Don't have to be in the portal to want to transfer. Perry's in a heated battle for the backup position at BC. Smart move by Perry to get out. You have to be int he portal for coaches to contact him. Once a player tells his current school he desires to transfer, the school has a couple of days to put him in the portal. Admittedly, I don't know if a player under scholarship at once school can initiate contact and visit other schools on their own initiative.

This would make perfect sense if true. This is the right move not only for HC, but for this student as well.

MM, well said. Any FBS QB would be smart to transfer here. I suppose one of these years I should check to see if any of my meds should not be combined with alcohol. Nah, why give up a good med? 😝

Perry's going to go where he has the best chance to play winning football. All schools he is in or the suggested list in another post are great colleges.
This is where Chesney comes in. He is a great over-recruiter. One plus in HC's pocket....they play BC again next year. Sure Perry would love to show his ability.

Word on the street - smart, highly talented, straight arrow kid. Would be a solid Crusader. He could petition the NCAA to get an extra year and come to HC for 3 years, dominate, lead us to victory over Navy and Syracuse . . . get back at BC in 2021, and then go pro, and later on become part of the 90 Wide Mentoring Program and enjoy being part of this terrific family for the rest of his life.
It's a great story and would be a highly intelligent move by all involved.

Not to digress from the topic at hand but in regard to the 90-Wide, I beg your indulgence in sharing the following (there are countless stories just like this emanating from the 90W). MAJOR kudos to the Crusaders who support this effort:
There is no doubt in my mind that playing football at the College of the Holy Cross was the most important decision I made in regards to my future in medicine. Playing Division 1-AA football at an institution that not only bolsters an outstanding pre-medical program, but also emphasizes the Jesuit principles of men and women for others, was key in setting myself apart as an applicant to medical school. That being said, it was the unique nature of the 90-Wide Mentoring program that provided me with a foundation for building relationships with fellow Crusaders in the medical field. This allowed me the opportunity to gain vital shadowing experience, medical school application insight, and mentorship. I had the privilege of working with two of the greatest Crusaders I know, whom I am grateful to now be able to call colleagues in the field of medicine. I am forever indebted for their continued investment in my journey into the medical profession: Dr.Joe Ciccone '97, a former fullback turned Urologist, and Dr. Steven Fox '78, a former running-back turned Orthopaedic Surgeon. They both completely opened their doors to me, inviting me into their lives without hesitation, and allowing me to see behind the scenes of the operating room. Furthermore, they provided priceless insight and career guidance, and would even take the time to proof-read applications. These mentors did everything in their power to facilitate my progress.
My first stethoscope was given to me by Dr. Ciccone while I was still a pre-med student unsure of what lies ahead. Today I use that same stethoscope on patients in the New Orleans free health clinics where I volunteer, keeping in mind mentors like Dr. Ciccone and Dr. Fox, who have supported and motivated me along my journey. The 90-Wide Mentoring program and Crusaders like Dr. Fox and Dr. Ciccone set Holy Cross football apart. HCFB will continue to produce future physicians, and I am honored to now be a part of this storied tradition.
Tyler Zeoli ‘15 Tulane University Medical School New Orleans, LA
LET'S WIN!!

My understanding of the situation was that Perry wanted to stay at BC, get his degree in three years, then go to play at a school that has a graduate program allowing him two years of remaining eligibility. That situation may have changed - honestly not sure. That said I believe all three of those schools mentioned above have Graduate degrees? In addition, his Uncle is the head coach at Brown. Not trying to be negative, just sharing what I know of the situation. I know he strongly considered HC before so hopefully we have an in there, along with the ability to play right away. My guess is he would want to make his decision if he's transferring by the end of May in order to start working out with the team over the summer.

That 3-2 strategy is very intelligent and if I understand correctly would result in two free degrees including a strong two year Masters. HC has a dog in the race because two recent QBs made it to NFL training camps and I think Dom might have been on a practice squad, so if you do well at QB at HC you can get an NFL opportunity and his chance to win the starting job here is about eleven out of ten.

He's getting a degree from BC in 3 years while playing football? What's the rush?
My advice to young men like these is always this - there's no rush. Find the right place, study what you like, and play some good football. Enjoy the experience. Advanced degrees are always there. Don't be so busy that you can't enjoy the moment. I wish someone had sat me down 20 some odd years ago and told me that.
Buy hey, that's just me. It worked out well.
No charge for the consult.

This seems to be the issue. He may think he is too far down on the depth chart to actually play much. Also he may regret the error he made in choosing the wrong school.

As I read BC's roster notes, Perry has already matriculated 2 and a half years at BC. He enrolled in Jan 2017, and participated in spring practice that year. If he enrolled at HC, he would have two years of football eligibility, and would also need four academic semesters at HC.
His extra semester at BC would count for naught. ---Unless, he enrolled in HC / Notre Dame's computer science 3/2 program and an 'on-line' semester would satisfy the NCAA with respect to enrollment. He is a computer science major at BC.
