My guess is most people on this blog got Chesney's email a few days back about the Spring, fund raising, etc. He mentioned the players are back in Worcester to start summer courses on June 2nd and training.
I have no idea on the timing of transfers, but my thinking would be any transfer would want to be on campus starting then - early June. Understand the offense, work with returning WR's, RB's, TE's, get to know the OL.
So......begs the question - when will HC know about any transfers if they get one.

I am counting on new AD, Marcus Blossom, to bring that QB from BC with him. [Package deal!]

New BC Quarterback on the 247 transfer portal: Matt McDonald a redshirt freshman who "completed five of six pass attempts for 107 yards and two TDs vs. Holy Cross (9/8/18)... "
Maybe we can get him???
247sports.com/college/boston-college/Season/2019-Football/TransferPortal/
(This is in addition to the BC QB who transferred in December to Rutgers after appearing on the 247 portal).
Looks like BC now has 4 very good quarterbacks remaining. Including a Fordham Prep kid who is probably at the bottom of the list.

Some posters are skeptical or cautious because (1) many fine athletes are just not ready on day one as division-1 QBs and (2) our top incoming QB faced small schools in HS, not top level competition.
I have not written him off yet—we can trust Coach Ches and staff to (1) get him ready as fast as they can and (2) make the proper choice on who starts game 1

Yeah...really not that long ago though. I dunno, starting to get a bad feeling about this. I know he's visited etc but I'm starting to think he'll either stay at BC or go elsewhere, likely Brown. Hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for the link to the article on EJ Perry IV. It reminded me of hearing former Congressman Peter Blute speak. Peter had been a star lineman at St. John's HS in Shrewsbury and went on to play football at BC. He thought he was great coming out of HS, but when he reported for his first practices at BC he found out that compared to the other recruits he was "small, but slow."
The article mentions the starting QB is the same class as Perry. Why not come to HC and start against Navy and Syracuse? Brown won't be playing any FBS teams.

Hope I'm wrong. We'd know it if he was on the portal (as is another BC QB). It is true he is in a very tough spot with a kid his year as a firm starter, another younger rival, and a hotshot QB recruit already on campus and who participated in spring ball. With just two years of eligibility left - although if he plays less than 5 games for BC this year he preserves a redshirt year .
A feint to enter the portal (by sniffing around other programs) might have been part of a tactic to elicit some answers from the head BC coach concerning future playing time.
(FWIW I have no idea if PL schools honor previously served (nonmedical) redshirt years by transfers but I do know we don't pursue them...that cannot help a school in the transfer market)
FWIW #2 - the other school I follow, SBU, just picked up a nice transfer (a former 3-star receiver from SMU) off the portal yesterday. Probably saw where he stood after spring practice (this is pretty ordinary for transfers) and since he redshirted he has two years of eligibility left at SBU. SBU will probably pick up 3 or 4 more between now and summer practice (BC, Temple, and Maryland are frequent sources for SBU).

Its getting very late in the day for Perry. Perhaps at least one of the schools he was supposedly interested in wanted to see his semester grades, but as BC's commencement was yesterday, the grades are in If he is going to transfer, he should appear in the portal pretty damn quick.

And once you go on the portal you are sending a very clear message to your current school - they can take you off of scholarship and you have essentially burnt your bridges (so the wise student has already 'cleared' admissions with his new school before he enters the portal...remember, he can't talk to a coach unless he is on the portal).

1. "Perry had a decent day, completing 4 of 13 passes for 49 yards, while rushing six times for 36 yards. He had two rushes for first downs and another 15-yard run nullified on a hold away from the play." I am not impressed with that % pass completion especially in a practice game. On the other hand, some were supposedly dropped. The operative word here is "decent."
2. It may be late for him but I am sure his uncle could find a spot for him on the Brown roster even at the last minute. Holy Cross, not so much. I won't lose sleep "losing" this guy.

How would he clear admissions without talking to a coach? Those are the clear transfer portal rules. It is not 'tampering' by a coach if the kid is on the portal. Rules and interpretations clearly indicate a kid can go to a campus and talk to admissions without being on the portal. But it is 'tampering' for a coach on staff to talk to him.
(There was a bit of give and take in the discussions prior to the portal rules...much of it - but not all - favors athletes). Here's a bit from SI
In 2018, the NCAA instituted a new rule allowing Division I athletes to add their names to a "transfer portal" without permission from the program.
Entering the NCAA transfer portal is a necessary first step for any athlete who wishes to transfer to another institution. Once an athlete decides to transfer and is added to the database, any coach can contact the athlete. The process is now in the hands of athletes–past situations where universities blocked talented players from leaving are no longer permissible. However, schools are now allowed to cancel the scholarships of players at the end of the semester in which they expressed their intent to transfer.

As he was not in the portal, he could not talk to BC or any other football coach during his visit to Holy Cross. Then a visit is little more than taking in the scenery.

A minor pet peeve of mine on Crossports abbreviations. BC = Bill Carmody (why I use WC or CWC - his name is " William", his nickname is "Bill") BC = Bob Chesney (his name is " Robert") BC = Boston College BU = Bucknell University ("BuckU"?) BU = Boston University HC = Holy Cross HC = head coach (why not "hc?") Phreek's post speaking of the Boston College player transferring and speaking or not to Bob Chesney just the most recent. I appeal to other posters to use abbreviations that don't need to be read twice to put into context what the abbreviation means. Oh, would I have this issue if we joined the Big East? Not sure but just wanted to give an example of how irritating I find this to those who get hot and bothered when Fr. Brooks and his Big East decision comes up in almost every topic. Or, for those who get upset when a thread digresses and/or de-rails. We all have our crosses to bear. Carry on.

Just curious where the public version of the portal is? I can find websites like 247 Sports that show players in the portal, but can't find the actual portal.
Is it possible that 247Sports and their like are simply recreating "the portal" based on public knowledge of those who have definitively announced their intent to transfer? Not unlike the recruiting sites that list offers based on what kids, their parents and coaches say???
That said ... can we give this a bit of a rest until there is some actual news?
There are five guys who ARE on the roster, will be Crusaders in the Fall and as of May 21st, one of those 5 are more likely to be starting next year than anyone who MAY transfer to HC but doesn't.
And as a reminder ... Lew Alcindor visited Holy Cross too.

Channeling my innah HC70, from what I hear, the current QB situation on campus is dire right now. While I too wish one of "our" guys would step up, my little birdies say that has hardly been the case...thus sort of the panic-mode for some outside help.

The article mentions the starting QB is the same class as Perry. Why not come to HC and start against Navy and Syracuse? Brown won't be playing any FBS teams. Red Sox president Sam Kennedy spoke at his alma mater, Trinity, on Sunday. Before telling the graduates that he had two tickets for the Memorial Day game for each of them, he discussed his collegiate baseball career. " I chose Trinity in part because I wanted to play baseball, and as captain of the Brookline High School baseball team, I envisioned I was destined to become NESCAC’s next hardball hero. I’d abandoned the notion I’d ever make the big leagues, but Division III ball in New England? Sign me up.
I spent my freshman year ..... sitting on the end of the bench—not exactly a confidence booster. So I came up with what I thought was a foolproof idea on how to find out how I fit into Coach Bill Decker’s plans going forward. I told him at some point I hoped to take a semester studying overseas, but if I went in the spring, I’d miss baseball season. He loved the idea. “That’s really great that you’re planning ahead, Sam,’’ he said. “You should definitely do a semester abroad in the spring.’’ Great. I had just managed to cut myself from the team. "
