Lots of discussion on Twitter discussing the HC win in 2006. It seems that lately there have been several upset wins by lower seeded teams in the tournament. I really liked this one:

AIC hadn’t won more than 12 games in a season since 1993-94. They have won 8, 15 and 23 in Lang’s first three seasons. Might not be at AIC for long.

Coach Lang has done an amazing job there. They were one of the worst teams in Division 1 a few years ago and they just beat the best team in the country in the NCAA Tourney. Impressive. Air Force did the same thing last year....so maybe Atlantic Hockey is better than we think

AIC was outshot 34-13 - a great goal tending performance is the ultimate equalizer

Scoreless vs Denver in early second period. AIC goalie continues to stand on his head. Stopped 12 shots to Denver's 6. Both goalies from Sweden. Should we be recruiting more Swedish kids from Holden?

Scheels Arena (2008) in Fargo is a nice facility. It only cost $29.1 million in today's dollars, it seats 6000 for basketball and concerts and 5000 for Hockey and has 30 suites and 300 club seats. Looks like they have minor league hockey, Arena Football, NDSU basketball there. A combo hockey and basketball arena is very efficient, although alot of work for the bull gang. Announcer just said UMass is in the Frozen Four. All Pioneer Valley Final?

PC beating Cornell 3-0 end of second period. 20 minutes away from Frozen Four.
Providence got to host a regional as a 4 seed. Must be nice.
Yes, I'm watching this game over Duke-Michigan State (and the yankees).

Cant expect that as a bottom seed.

Providence College was NOT the host as Brown University was They still got to play in their home city at the Dunk. Despite the fact that Brown employees were in charge of equipment and some game operations, I'm pretty sure it was still an advantage for the Friars.

IF HC qualified and the games were at the DCU Crusaders would play in Worcester. That's how they do it in hockey now.

The NCAA D1 Hockey Regionals do not really draw well on their own. They actually specifically try to put teams at sites nearby to help drive attendance. The attendance at the two sites in New England this past weekend was as follows:
Manchester (capacity 9,852) UMass/Harvard/Clarkson/Notre Dame
Day1 DH 5,033
Day2 Final 5,679
Providence (capacity 11,075) PC/Northeastern/Cornell/Minn State Day1 DH 7,180 Day2 Final 5,231
Both of these regionals each had two New England schools and one NY state school that were within driving distance. Providence had a team that was just two miles away. Yet the two host venues managed to fill just 55% of their seats for this sport's premier college event.
I was in downtown Providence by the Dunkin Donuts Center while the two hockey games (PC-Minneota State and Northeastern-Cornell) were going on Saturday afternoon. I was surprised by the lack of activity in the area. Would not have known there really was any event going on based on the view outside the arena while fans were inside watching the games. Did not really see much activity in the businesses near the arena nor much signage proclaiming the presence of the event nor welcoming fans. It was far different than the atmosphere that has surrounded the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament when the arena and city have hosted in the past.

Interesting that Worcester last year outdrew Providence this year. No wonder the Red Sox moved their AAA affiliate.

Interesting that Worcester last year outdrew Providence this year. No wonder the Red Sox moved their AAA affiliate.
Worcester drew 1,529 more patrons for the two days last year. Roughly the same arena capacity rate of 56% of the seats filled for both Worcester and Providence. Worcester had BU, Cornell, Northeastern, and Michigan. Both regionals had Northeastern and Cornell. Worcester however had BU and Michigan while Providence had PC and Minnesota State. The combined draw of Worcester ended up being better than Providence and it would appear that programs, not sites, very much dictate the draw for the NCAA Hockey Tournament. It is worth noting that while PC draws very well for basketball with the highest average attendance in New England, it is the opposite for hockey as the team lags behind many local programs. It in fact had the 2nd lowest average in the 11 team Hockey East this past season only outdrawing Merrimack (2,526 vs 2,214/game). Keep in mind that this occurred with PC nationally ranked for most all the season and Merrimack near the bottom of the standings. My interpretation of the Friars situation is that all the attention and support directed at PC basketball hurts its hockey program which competes during the same time span. There is only so much interest to go around.

Stat of the day: Apply In Crayon won as many games in the NCAA Tournament this weekend (ONE), as Coach Bedard has won at Holy Cross in the last five Atlantic Hockey tournaments.
Maybe AIC should be the new member of the Hockey East.

Interesting that Holy Cross hosted TWO Frozen Four teams this year at the Hart. Doubt that has ever happened before with Holy Cross hockey.

Maybe AIC should be the new member of the Hockey East. The reason this won't happen is UMass is right down the road and won't want the competition at the gate.

Logically Almost in Championship should move up to H.E. and Assumption should move up to A.H.A., giving UMass a Pioneer Valley rivalry and Holy Cross a crosstown rivalry while protecting the environment by reducing bus fumes.

Umass advances in OT. Attendance, 13K (capacity is 19.2K). Good luck to them. It's pissing a lot of BC people that they have gotten this far (they would have preferred PC winning over them)...and that's never a bad thing!

The frozen four consisted off one team an hour west of us and another an hour south of us (or three hours if you hopped a freight on the P&W railroad). Bring in an AD who can help get Holy Cross into the mix.
