Why isn’t Cronin or Dvorak starting? No clue. But I trust the coaching staff has a good reason. Yeah, how dare anyone question a coach who has won a 6-team league once in 11 years.

Imagine if we lose game two and one of the two best pitchers doesn't even throw a pitch in the playoffs. Makes sense.

/\ /\ Provided everyone is healthy that would be very difficult to explain.
Unearned run for West Point. We're down 1-0.

Regardless of who’s pitching it’s hard to win if you’re not scoring - we’ve now scored one run in 12 innings today Seems coach was playing a hunch starting McGowan after his excellent recent performances Navy beat Lafayette 3-0 today and play game 2 (and 3?)) tmro

Right on cue HC breaks through with 4 in the 4th and 2 in the 6th - up 6-1 in the bottom of the 6th. Cronin still in there and I am sure the coach will go with him as long as possible to save arms for tmro

HC up 6-1. Cronin leaves with men on 1st and 2nd.
We’ve hit pretty well today (11 in the game 1 loss and 6 this game).
Time for the bullpen to hold on for the W.

Relief pitcher loads the bases, one run then comes in on a sac fly. Not over yet.

Why bring Dvorak into the game to start the 9th inning when you can let your freshman pitcher with a 7.75 ERA walk the first and second batters of the inning first?

Only occasional rain and drizzle but temps from 42-48 so foul balls off the barrel of the bat could sting.

Well, I guess Dvorak is perfectly healthy. So now I have no explanation as to why we did not go with our 1st and 2nd starters (in whatever order)in the first and second games of the best of three series. (I know our coach tends to do that for matchup purposes in the regular season PL games.)

HC batters only scored one run over nine innings in first game. Sandy Koufax might not have won that game for the good guys, so in retrospect we have a quality starter for the rubber game and home field advantage in what could be a weather shortened game. The ninth inning appearance was necessary and hopefully won't hurt tomorrow's pitching performance too much.

the bottom of the ninth was a close call - first and second with no outs. Dvorak needed 9 pitches to end the game against their no. 2,3 and 4 batters. Fly out followed by picking off the runner at 2nd, and a strike out.

Back from both games. Weather gorgeous . . . . and not just relatively speaking Worcester weather. Somehow, I enjoyed game #2 better than game #1. We did have to make it more interesting than necessary but still won game #2. Had a nice chat with Coach Chesney and re-met his "better half" (Andrea) and his 3 kids. No, I did not ask about the QB situation. He did say [paraphrasing here] that they are aiming for players being recruited at D-IA level because a number of them will fall short of their own expectations and when it hits them that they aren't going to play on a D-IA team and lower their expectations to D-IAA, they will see that HC has LAC facilities as good as most D-IA teams and better than almost every other D-IAA team; has outstanding academics; a supportive alumni base (think td128's "90-wide"); and a schedule that plays D-IA teams and many of the best D-IAA teams. I took this to mean that a "high" D-IAA recruit is about the same as a "low" D-IA recruit. We talked about his time at Assumption and he said when they got in the playoffs, on paper they may have been playing other D-2 teams but at least one of the teams had former Notre Dame players who had got kicked off the team (I did not recall the story he referenced but expressed mock shock that Notre Dame would have players kicked off the team). He said it took awhile to build the fan base for Assumption but hoped to one day fill Fitton. I told him that would require playing BC at home and, by the way, when will there be lights which was my set up for his expected answer: "whenever you can write the check." I expressed my displeasure with the loss of the mascot and that my 7 year old granddaughter said she would never go to another HC game without the mascot. He said that td128 expressed the same displeasure on the loss of the mascot. Told him I already knew that. He did say that Syracuse is significantly better than BC and he thought would be a top 10 team as their program is on the ascendancy (not good for us). I mentioned that the Chairman of the BoT said the new AD would be announced "in the coming days" and he chuckled at that and agreed that was probably accurate. I mentioned Gordie as a possible AD but he agreed with my assessment that it would probably mean a paycut for him to take it if he even wanted it and HC wanted him. We also chatted about the Nichols basketball coach going to Assumption. He seemed interested in that move and obviously still has a soft spot for Assumption. We have historically had some stand-offish coaches at Holy Cross. Coach Chesney is not one of them. He makes it a point to get your name, looks you in the eye and is not looking to run off to talk to someone else. In fact, shortly after his wife and kids met him, I excused myself to let him be with them though he (and she), indicated there was no need for me to leave. I'm not qualified to judge his football knowledge but I will say he has a dynamic personality that has to be successful on the recruiting front. And, yes, I know this is a baseball thread. Sorry.

Any Worcester weather report today? Thoughts on likelihood of getting the game in? Already raining here in CT and not really expected to get better throughout the day. Was thinking about driving up for the game.

Thanks, hcbball. Will be a real Mother’s Day test of love as to whether my wife wants to sit in a soggy Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field to watch HC baseball with me and our kids.

90% chance of rain at 5pm and 80% chance of rain at 8pm in zip code 01610. Good news is the temperature will rise from 37 (above) to 38 from 5pm to 8pm. You may have to throw in a "Roast Beef Dinner" at nearby Arby's in Auburn.

I really hope Coach Chesney and his family love tha area, the school system the kids are in, have at least some family here, so when the big boys come knocking in a few years, HC has a fighting chance to keep him. It pains me to say I hope BC does really well on the gridiron so they aren't looking soon.
