I have had the same thing happen in multiple locals. Folks do seem to feel it is OK to make contact with those wearing their HC gear.

In one of his only good outings, Spano threw 2 innings in relief today, 1 hit, 1 walk, no runs. He received the win. One of his pluses is 14 Ks in 17.2 ip

Spano was not a top recruit but lefties always get that extra look - he was not in the starting rotation during his sr year at seton hall prep - his era is summer has been hovering around 9.00 - let’s hope he develops as there’s always late game scenarios when you have to get a lefty out

The Cape is the best college summertime baseball league in the country. It is an honor to play there an entire season. Austin should be very proud. While not always fair, the big time schools/players get playing time priority over the smaller schools. Otherwise, the SEC, ACC, PAC 10, BIG 10, BIG 12,etc conferences would not commit to the league. Over the last few years, HC former full year CCBL players (McGowan, ONeill, Critelli, King, Gustin, and even Nick L w MLB dad) saw limited playing time at certain times. Playing time is more frequent prior to the end of the CWS ( when the big schools are in NCAAs) and once the big school players decide that they want to go back home ( likely soon).

Ok, but a .197 hitter from Stanford getting significantly more at bats than a .383 hitter from HC is blatantly unfair.and beyond any rationalization.

In tonight’s Game Falmouth was being no hit until the 8th in a 1-0 deficit. With the tying run on third, Austin, batting ninth, worked 8 pitches before hitting a sac fly to tie it. Falmouth went on to win, 2-1, on only one hit.

Hoops - here's why it's this way: GM's and skippers of Cape clubs work with schools that produce first day draft picks whose coaches agree to steer these good players to said clubs in exchange for the clubs sometimes taking lesser players who need regular AB's vs good pitching to improve for their college seasons.
Trust me, the kids from schools such as HC understand this. Masel went to Falmouth on a conditional contract, and that he'll end up staying the whole season playing in front of an often large contingent of scouts and cross-checkers, while getting AB's vs the best collegiate arms in the country, not to mention enjoy the summer trappings of the Cape beats the alternative of say playing every day for the Valley Blue Sox in duck for cover Holyoke for example.

Nice analysis--makes the situation easy to understand.
Let's hope Austin continues with the hot bat and gets even better for next season. He's #10 in all-time base hits for Holy Cross (yes, we know the team plays a lot more games per season than it did 30-40-50-60 years ago) and, barring injury, is at least even money to pass Matt Perry for the #1 career spot.

Thanks, CTp Of the two players who play over Austin, one is from Stanford— understood that it probably gets first day draftees. But the other is from Western Michigan. True there also ?

Regular season ends next Thursday- Falmouth is in 1st place in the western division The roster shows 6 outfielders and I totally agree that Austin’s performance has been under appreciated- that being said I am sure the pro scouts have noticed

You gave me a mental picture of a distant car backfiring somewhere in the Paper City and all the scouts diving for the floor.

Must be a new manager In the first game (7 innings) of two, a 7-2 win, Austin batted LEADOFF 2-3, a double and a homer, 2 RBIs , 2 runs scored and a walk. Average at ,368 Maybe preparing for the playoffs ? Maybe Austin replaced the leadoff hitter in the fourth of game 2 He is 0-1 Team is down 7-1, top 5

With more AB’s Austin would be leading the league in batting average - the leader now is his teammate zack deLoach (Texas A&M) who is batting .348 - tmro is the last day of the regular season
