From looking at the rendering, then the webcam to see the actual picture of current construction. it appears the room and the outdoor deck will have an outstanding view of the Worcester Hills and Mt. Watchusett.. It will be a great area for receptions in the future. It will provide another venue other than Hogan for Student and Alumni functions. Looking forward to attending events in the new PPAC. Long overdue for the HC community. If I was chair of a class reunion committee, I would be eyeing that space as the site of a class reception. The caption is: view of beehive from bar. The caption is: view of beehive from pre-function space. Lacking even primitive floorplans, orienting these views is purely a guess. ______________________ As for the costume shop, I understand said shop will now stock the regalia of a certain institution which shall not be named. Clearly, a former leader of said institution foresaw the day when a wearer of said regalia would march at the head of an academic procession on Pakachoag Hill. Note the double purple crows feet.

Here's a picture of the PPAC taken yesterday, February 21, 2021 (an absolutely gorgeous day here in the Woo) which provides you a good view of the exterior "rust" looking panels being put up... Also, found this new addition on the East side of the Luth alongside the indoor football area. Was told that it was put in to give students an outdoor area to skate on during Covid. Banners and benches will be added by next weekend for its unveiling. Was told that the "ice" skating area will be 30' by 60' and is a synthetic substance called polycarbonate (think that's what they said - I'm sure Phreak would know more about this synthetic material).

What a terrific idea. Those New England students, steeped in skating should love it.

PP, do you think the plumbers and electricians are working on the interior at this stage? Any chance it will be ready for Sept?

PPAC will not be ready for September 2021. Based on a recent zoom meeting I attend, the physical building will be completed during the spring semester of 2022, with actual grand opening for classes and programs estimated now for September 2022. The original estimate was completion in the fall of 2021 with full functionality with faculty and students in the spring of 2022.
The college is now reviewing and in plan with enhancing the entire arts curriculum to take advantage of the capabilities and features that will be provided by the PPAC.

PP, do you think the plumbers and electricians are working on the interior at this stage? Any chance it will be ready for Sept? The building is pretty much buttoned up, which allows various trades, such as electricians and plumbers to work inside. However, I think the building is not sufficiently sealed as to allow carpenters to install wood paneling, of which there is a lot. The black box theater will be finished before the larger performance hall is done. I believe it will take weeks, perhaps several months, to fine tune the acoustics of that hall. I recall a schedule dated from about a year ago, that the college could begin using parts of the PPAC starting with spring semester 2022. And certainly, classrooms and studios should be open and available that semester. For the complexity of acoustics, see this article from Toronto and the renovation of a concert hall there. www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/fine-tuning-roy-thomson-hall/article1025561/Tuning Stanford's new concert hall __________________ I will add that as the incoming President is on the board of directors of the Boston Lyric Opera, it would not surprise me in the least if the BLO is invited to perform as the acoustics are being tested.

PP:
Thank you for the links regarding acoustics for a new concert hall. While not being able to carry a tune, I appreciate and marvel at the talents of many artists and musicians that I have been privileged to meet over my life. For several years I was a board member of a Chamber Music Orchestra, that was resident at a well renowned music school. It was a memorable learning experience for me and my family.
I really enjoyed the Stanford documentary, as my daughter’s freshmen and sophomore year academic adviser, often spoke and provided commentary in the video about the planning of the hall as well as the concept of the Arts district on the Stanford campus. The Bing Hall is one of the buildings in the complex of facilities that includes the Cantor Art Museum, named after Gerald and Iris Cantor. That name sounds familiar. It is one of four Cantor sponsored Art Museums or Galleries at colleges and universities in the US. The others at HC, and Haverford (Cantor Fitzgerald). At one time, the museum at Duke was named after Cantor Fitzgerald, but doing a recent review, it appears that is no longer the name of the museum on the Duke campus.
Regarding the date the PPAC will open for use, in a meeting last Tuesday, it was mentioned that with the pandemic, the plan is to have it available for the fall of 2022.
The facility has been discussed for over 50 years. I remember seeing it mentioned in the college admissions view book for the 1967-1968 edition. Guess I will have to wait a little longer to see it fully operational.

Please tell me that at least he costume room will be ready by September; please? i was told the costume shop will be ready for the convocation of the next President of Holy Cross. The costume shop will be used by invited dignitaries to check and retrieve their academic robes and associated paraphernalia. I was also told that your avatar is among the invited guests, as he was President of a certain institution when President-elect Rpugeau was matriculating at its law school. Yes, he lives still.

The PPAC (or PCPA) will open for Holy Cross in Jan-Feb 2022. (The costume shop is delayed as its size is being doubled given the upwelling of alumni interest and support.)
Several months to fine tune the acoustics.
Open to the public for performances in the fall of 2022.

A/C chillers and air handlers being lifted to the roof. The A/C needs to be up and running by June, because without A/C, that building will be an oven, come summer. There are no windows to open.

Is HC sticking with it's no solar energy policy with this and other new buildings? I assume you are referring to solar panels. There is too little available space on the Prior Center for solar panels other than a token installation. Maybe when they re-do the Easy St dorms, solar on those roofs.

Style over substance. Would like to see an attempt at both with the Easy Street dorms.

OK, so we all saw they moved the "Jo" camera a couple of weeks ago despite the title of "The Jo" webcam to show the parking lot from atop Hogan looking up at the Luth. But the last couple of days the camera is down. Phreek, does that mean they are moving the camera again (maybe to cover the quad?!! ] as I wouldn't think if just changing the name of the webcam they'd have to take it down. Personally I like the webcams (great screen saver, gives me "eyewitness weather" if I'm planning a trip to campus) and hope the actually expand the concept. You'd think for campus security they'd have more.

You'd think for campus security they'd have more. My guess is that they need to re-write the text graphics, because the latest webcam perspective was of work on the parking lots. The uninformed, reading the captions, might think the college was only just starting work on The Jo. If that camera is still off-line going into next week, I will inquire. The college is using these webcams to document construction. BC has steadily increased the number of webcams. www.bc.edu/bc-web/about/maps-and-directions/webcams.html.html[/url]but the image quality is so 2005ish. An institution always behind the times! And I don't like recent stone color for their collegiate Gothic buildings, either. So there!
