Phreek, doing due diligence, listened to the Conservation Commission meeting of March 1, and corrects the record. play.champds.com/worcesterma/event/689Holy Cross was item #8. It was not the Conservation Commission that had a discussion of traffic islands and paints, but the Planning Board at its meeting on March 3rd. play.champds.com/worcesterma/event/697^^^ HC is the first item on the agenda. There are several slides of site plans, existing photos, and a single rendering with the PCPA as built with the existing island in front of Hogan. The site plans are so small as to be illegible from a text standpoint. I may try to find a copy of the actual submission.

Full crew working on Saturday on the parking lot. Probably on a tight schedule to have the lot finished by mid August. The trench on the right side is for electrical conduit to light poles. It may be filled in by day's end.
Either the college's representative mis-spoke before the Conservation Commission in March, when he described the project as mainly being a milling and re-paving, or the college decided to spend more money on the project. The old asphalt is completely gone, and a new gravel base is being installed and contoured.

Well, that's because the College is flush with money and the endowment is bursting at the seams!

I think they are trying to get big pieces installed before the heavy rain from the remnants of the hurricane reaches Worcester late tomorrow.

Just saw on the PPAC webcam that someone was flying a drone obviously taking video/pictures. Isn't technology grand?

It looks like they finally finished the roof facade on the south/west side of the PPAC. Not sure if southern exposure is considered the front, back or side. The plaza on the west side facing the Hogan parking lot would lead me to believe that will be considered the "front." Admittedly, I am too lazy to go back to all the posts/renderings/drawings, etc., etc. to figure it out.
I do think this facade was just too complicated and probably added many thousands (millions?) in extra expense and time. But since my contributions are minimal, "who am I to judge?"

Drove by the PPAC on Saturday. Impressive structure but still much work to do on the south east corner.....still several white panels need to be placed. I assume there is lots of interior work being done at this time. Wonder if they will have it ready for January?

They re-positioned the PCPA camera back to the original view. No sign yet of a new replacement cam for the parking lot / The Jo.

The front door is indeed facing the Hogan lot. Your limo driver should know that, but if not, you can now direct him. (Slide the partition open first.)

The next couple of nights, take a look at the web cam around 7:20-7:30 to see the moon rise over the PCPA.

From my driveway with my fancier, no-iPhone, camera. Thanks for the tip. I did take a picture of the PPAC webcam but the moon comes out fuzzy.

Surprised no one has already commented - perhaps ACTP since this seems to be his favorite topic - that a few days ago they slightly moved the camera angle so almost none of the parking lot is seen going up to the Luth entrance and angled more to the east. You can see more of the northern side but still none of the east or south sides.

PP: What's your assessment of what is taking place in the NW corner of the PPAC?

I just checked the webcam- the building, from this angle, is much larger than i thought it was. Alas, at this point it appears to be as hideous as i feared. Maybe the landscaping will help, or a view fro a different angle....

I think that the renderings of the interior show what will be a fabulous space. I'm not so sure that I like the exterior and it does seem outsized--which is difficult since the Luth addition and Figge already stand out on the top of the campus.
Once upon a time, when you drove down 290, the spires of Fenwick stood out. They are now dwarfed. I am not suggesting that these new projects were not needed, just that they have changed the look of the campus when one looks up to it.

Has everyone seen the video tour of the inside? The professor did a great job in showcasing the place

It grows faster at a school in the mythical "Catholic Ivy League."

Since I hear it was invented in Worcester perhaps a big happy face could be painted on the exterior 😆.

Guess there are contrasting opinions and styles regarding the architectural vision of a new collegiate Center for the Performing Arts. One very traditional that completely blends into the traditional architecture of the campus, the other a statement, landmark building that is unique, and will be internationally recognized. Within the last year, Villanova University opened the new John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts. villanovatheatre.org/our-facilities/www.ramsa.com/projects/project/villanova-performing-arts-centerBoth facilities, The Prior and The Mullen, are similar in functionality and size. The upper campus has certainly a transformed different image than the traditional red brick classical campus architecture from years past. Entering the campus via the newly named Mahoney Way, driving by the new Recreational Center “The Jo”, and seeing the Prior Center, represents a institution with a vision towards the future. Some dislike the design, others embrace the unique perspective and possible international acclaim, that the Prior will provide. I am looking forward to enjoying the performances and the exhibits that will now be available to the HC community.
