Can we at least agree that Nelson delivered on those expectations in spades? Too funny! Of course we also know that the team did not lose its three best players but maybe 3 of its top 4, but we know the poster has a blind spot. As well, he fails to mention that the team added a player who became the highest scoring freshman in HC histpry Sorry, I will keep it factual so as to not offend you: Team lost it's three most valuable players, and returned the player who played in more Holy Cross losses than any other player in the school's history.

Just in case I missed the intentional hyperbole, Pridgen scored 521 points in 30 games for a 17.4 average. Ronnie Perry scored 574 points in 25 games for a 23.0 average. Without looking it up, I would not have known Pridgen scored that many points and was on a pace to be just the 4th member of the 2000 club. #$&%#

That was the defection that hurt the most. I get a kid that once he gets someplace, realizes a school wasn't the best fit for him. Not a fan of three schools in three years. Not going to call the kid a loser, but at some point you wonder if he'll be happy anywhere

It is puzzling that our friend cannot understand that all programs are different, that it's harder to win in basketball at Northwestern that at, say, Duke or Kentucky. It's harder to win in football at Duke than at Alabama or Auburn; at Columbia than at Harvard or Yale; etc. I've always believed in first doing the analysis and observation and then trying to draw sound conclusions. I don't get the idea of drawing the conclusions first and then searching for support, be it logical or illogical. Oh,well....

My (strategy?) practice was to wait all semester and do the paper the night before the penultimate class. Then I’d go in and say “Father, I know this paper isn’t due until Friday but may I turn it in today?”. I was hoping to create the impression that I had been working on it diligently all semester…..

I'm not proud of this but I took a History course with David O'Brien (a brilliant man) and the entire grade was a lengthy paper to be turned in at the end of the course. A senior, I waited until 24 hours before it was due and stayed up all night. I was luck enough to get an A but it was a very stressful experience.

I tried to get into one of his courses but was jettisoned in favor of history majors . He had a tremendous reputation on campus. Wasn’t he a Worcester city councilor?

I had him for 3 classes a general history class, a seminar with 3 of us, and an independent study. Very much a smart and bright man, and we had great conversations. Probably more of a point/counterpoint in class and during reviews of my research. I guess we were opposites politically, but honest and respectful of our positions. Unlike you I did not receive 3 As but found each class insightful and learned a great deal.

Might have been in your general class, efg, was it in 69-70? I think that was O'Brien's first year at HC.

That's not what you told me about Carmody at Northwestern and what is chris collins record at northwestern? you sure went quiet on him all of a sudden. i wonder why? Chris Collins has proven to not be a very good coach. Yet, he was still able to get Northwestern to an NCAA Tournament, a feat you would have thought was impossible if you only listened to the Carmody apologists, and has virtually the same overall and conference winning percentage as Carmody. I am aligned if we’re agreeing that neither are anything more than average coaches.

Or maybe both were/are saddled with strong obstacles to winning. ex. Higher academic standards than the rest of the Big 10

Doesn't matter who Bill C recruited if the young man left when Bill C was still the coach, doesn't do (or wouldn't have done) Holy Cross any more good than him recruiting CG, KC, TC and JS (who had varying degrees of ability and inability).

We are in a lull for HC basketball to resume.
If you may be jonesing for a basketball game to watch that may be of very slight interest. Former HC players match up on the Big 10 Channel at 1:00 PM, Illinois (Grandison) vs St. Francis of PA (Hargis).
Probably most have no desire to watch. So don’t castigate the messenger. Just letting you know if you have nothing better to spend your time this afternoon.
