Thanks for the detailed scouting report. WG Did Geo Baker play ? I have not seen his name mentioned recently, at about the same time that Caleb started scoring bigger are you going to Saturday's game ? Baker played, but not very well - shot very poorly, spent a lot of time on the bench. Their freshman combo guard, Bol Akot (who already has an offer from Rutgers), was very good, allowing CG to play off the ball some while Baker sat. Planning to go Saturday - easy 20-minute drive from my house.

And Baker is going to Rutgers next season, recruited as a point, though some are sceptical that he can play that position Looking forward to your account on Saturday Thanks again. Very helpful. Hopeful about Caleb in an HC uni.

Caleb & Co. hung tough with one of this year's premier New England teams, before falling. Cushing was very impressive - fast, long, physical, and skilled, up front and back. Coach Scott, among others, watching court-side.
Not a very good game for CG, who matched up with Virginia Tech-bound Wabissa Bede, a strong, athletic PG. Offensively, Green had difficulty penetrating to the hoop, which his game seems to key off at that end of the court. Missed his first three shots, had limited looks and success the rest of the way - guessing he ended up with 10-12 points, making maybe 30-35%, including a three with about 25 tics left and the outcome not in doubt. FT, 1-2. A handful of turnovers as well, a couple on bounce passes off drives that could have been caught. On a positive note, with the exception of one early kamikaze drive, he made generally good decisions with the ball in scoring position (i.e., didn't force shots).
Defensively, he spent a lot of the afternoon getting picked off by high ball screens - either forced to switch into a mismatch or unsuccessfully try to fight over the screen to catch up to Bede. For some reason, midway through the first half, Cushing stopped running that screen, and Caleb did a nice job one on one with Bede on a few possessions - showed quick feet and good reactions. Proctor switched to a 2-3 zone a little later, and CG was much less assertive, allowing Bede open looks on the wing, which he drained.
As in the game vs. Cheshire, he really doesn't look to rebound, especially at the defensive end. Caught watching balls bounce off the boards a couple times that he could (and should) have run down, since he wasn't boxing out or otherwise occupied. And, as in the Cheshire game, he did a lot of kvetching, albeit of a mild-mannered sort.
So, a very different performance than in the quarter-finals, but against much better competition. And, though he wasn't at his best, Caleb still showed some good things - played every minute, stayed composed in the face of adversity, demonstrated a consistently good handle, and repeated his plus shooting mechanics well.

Caleb had 10 His coach said that his opponent Bede played an outstanding game at both ends Bede is a 4-star (ESPN) talent, considered to be one of the top 15-20 PGs nationally in his class - and he was terrific. So really neither a surprise, nor a disappointment, that Caleb had problems with him. Bede also had a better supporting cast (though Geo Baker bounced back to have a good game for Proctor), which made play-making more difficult. In the course of his college career, CG is going to go head-to-head with a lot more guys like Cheshire's Rich Kelly than guys like Wabissa Bede. I think Holy Cross got itself a good one.

WG You commented on Caleb's lack of rebounding Does his team play with 3 bigs ? does Baker rebound from the 2 ?

WG You commented on Caleb's lack of rebounding Does his team play with 3 bigs ? does Baker rebound from the 2 ? For most of the game, Proctor had two PFs who hit the boards hard, and a 6-5 wing who played outside, in addition to Baker and Green - sometimes went with a 3-guard unit with 5-11 Bol Akot joining Baker and Green. Baker was a more active rebounder. Hoops, I have a question about the high ball screen that was so frustrating for CG to deal with today, and which appeared to me was not really his fault. A big part of the problem seemed to be that the screener's defender often followed him all the way to the circle (where he was no offensive threat), leaving no open path for Caleb to chase Bede under the screen, and keep him from penetrating or getting open for a jumper. Why wouldn't the defender hang back in the paint in this situation?

It depends on how the coach wanted to play it, or the player just screwed up. The coach maybe wanted to prevent a switch at all costs and did not even have the screener's defender attempt to hedge. I would have to see it; even then i may not be sure.

Of the other second team selections, one is going to VCU, two are high-major recruits, and the fourth (Rich Kelly) is a MAAC recruit CG dominated head-to-head in the AA tournament. I'd expect Green to jump up significantly in the final 2017 NERR player rankings.

Is Caleb a post grad, or a normal HS senior? I know with KCope and JG we have 2; the more the merrier I say.

Some video from a pick-up game involving some of the better players in NH. Caleb is in grey shirt with black shorts with a white stripe. The part that focuses on him begins with 1:05 remaining.

Where he's taking the jumpers is where he will be pulling it back to start the weave. Slicing and dicing not in the cards.

Green is co-featured in this video with Geo Baker and Tshiefu Ngalakulondi.
Towards the end of the video he says he can't wait to get to HC, win the Patriot League...and then transfer to a higher level. (I'm kidding)
