Agree with the poster who compared Caleb's build to that of Torrey Thomas. Also, he's no smaller than Pat Doherty. Remember him? Also, agree with poster who referenced Mugsy Bogues. How about NBA slam dunk contest winner Spud Webb? All of that said, if he is a legit 5'10", he is fine in our league. As I referenced in an earlier post, Miami is ecstatic to have outrecruited other ACC schools and NBE schools for four star Class of '17 PG Chris Lykes (5'7"), Prediction: Caleb Green is a difference maker for us and Benzan will be his backup.

Pat Doherty was listed at 5' 11 and that was legit.

Not to quibble, because the difference between 5'10 and 5'11" is pretty insignificant. That said, I know Pat and his family for decades. I am 5'10", and he is not taller than I.

If we are going to just use one more scholly for 2017, I'd like to see someone who can provide some help nearer the basket, offensively and defensively. Agreed, and that would put Jahsim Floyd or Sukhmail Mathon at the top of the wish list. Not sure either one possesses an ideal P.O. game, but both look like solid rebounders, agile defenders, and rim-protectors. Plan B might be either Matt Faw (good offensive range) or Dylan Hastings. Would be great to wrap things up by the end of the month.

I believe Caleb would have gone head to head with Pat Benzan when Proctor played Worcester Academy twice in 2014-2015. Caleb would have been a soph and Pat a post grad. WA won the first game narrowly with Caleb getting 15 points and 9 assists. WA destroyed Proctor in the second meeting and the recap on the Proctor site provided no player details.

That clip (www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OfyROx25j4) showed an interview with his coach who said "without Caleb we don't win any games"...he is a rock out there and it is like having another coach. In the judgement area, it appears we have a real winner in Caleb! IMO, we may have gotten another Pat Doherty. If that is the case, HC will be very happy with this recruit/player.

Great news on Green and Niego.. Both look like the type of recruits we expected when CBC took the job.
With these 3 players already committed, I wouldn't mind playing the wait and see game like we did last year. KC obviously turned out to be a great get. I don't want to see us take the next available guy so to speak. Maybe we get a higher profile player if we wait until after signing day. However, I know that would only create further anxiousness among myself and other members of the board.
This class already has me excited though. Should be a foundation for 4 years on the hill.
ROLL SADERS!

If we take 4 this year, we'll only have one available next year. Would be nice, and maybe better long term, to have 2

In his last game of the season for Proctor, he had 26 and 11 rebounds ! This was in a 66-63 win over Kimball Union Proctor won an international tourney in England during Christmas break '15, beating a few national teams. Caleb was MVP, scoring 119 in five games, with a high of 34, getting 11 and 9 assists in the championship game

Coach Owens: This week just keeps getting better !! Hi all, been a bit!! Question on CO's twitter... I thought under new NCAA rules coaches are now not even allowed to indirectly refer to recruiting... Definitely more out of interest than concern here, but can coaches say things like "We landed a big one!", or something more cryptic like CO's above?

Yes, your picture shows you are still clean-shaven, despite being summertime. Your dedication to the razor is admirable.

I really like the roster they're assembling. I just hope Coach finds us 1 more guy - to be able to come in during the first game of the 2017-18 season, if JF and JS each pick up 2 fouls in the first 5 minutes.

Foul trouble, injuries, unproductive play . . . there's a number of reasons why having just three guys over 6-6 makes me a little nervous for 2017-18. Very happy with the depth elsewhere.

As of now, in 17-18, we have 5 juniors (Charles, Zig, Floyd, Perkins and Benzan), 3 sophs (Cohen, Stevens and Le Sann) and 3 frosh (Strzala, Niego and Green). So, we'll have two for the next year when they all move up a class, or only one if we add a fourth to that incoming frosh class.

So we will have 0-2 spots open for 2018 depending how Carmody plays it. I wouldn't save more than one. I doubt he will either. Tough to start a year two scholarship players behind everyone else. Also still not convinced Strzala is still coming but I haven't heard from anyone who knows definitively one way or the other.

With the commit of Butler, plus Strzala lifting the pinned tweet of him commiting to HC and changing his Twitter avatar from an HC shirt, methinks he's not coming.

As of 8:22am, Strzala still has the tweet pinned that he is "PROUD TO ANNOUNCE [HE] WILL BE ACCEPTING A FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO PLAY DIVISION 1 BASKETBALL @ The College of the Holy Cross #CollegeForFree"
Hope he is still coming. Talented wing for us with some major offers. Seems like the type of shooter we could use from the outside. New picture is of his best friends it looks like. I wouldnt look too much into it.

Well, if Strzala comes in addition to Butler, the one scholarship we'll have next year better be used on someone YUGE - literally and figuratively.
