I will take skill and quickness over size in the backcourt, especially if Green can shoot as well as the video seems to indicate. Obviously it is ideal to have both. I like the kid too. I like next year's class as a whole. That is if Faw isn't seriously injured. Lineup for next year (wild guess) PB, KC2, JF, KC and MP. Soon off the bench CB, CN, Butler and Faw. Situational players MZ, CLS and JS

His family had a great bar in Worcester when I was at HC--draft mugs were $ 0.35 and the juke box was well stocked.....

R.I.P. Luigi's at the bottom of the hill. (1963) When did it disappear?

Don't know about Luigi's but there was a pizza place at the bottom of the hill in the early 1970's, "The Jolly Giant". Maybe that was in the Luigi's building???

Still a good pregame spot Breen's was our favorite spot to the point where we created a Breen's Tavern Diploma which Father Hamilton was kind enough to translate into Latin for us--I gave one to everyone in the Wheeler crowd on graduation weekend. I wonder where mine is now......

How about Leitrim's? Not near HC, really, but a good one.
If I read YELP correctly, it's still with us! Unfortunately, of course, Skitchy Scott, who bartended there at times, is not.

For a meek freshman non-scholarship player in '63-'64, I was always pleased to see the warm and friendly Jack Scott in the trainers' room rather than his boss, the intimidating Bill Samko. RIP, Jack

Asking 5 high school kids to jump into a whole new system and play big minutes is a lot. I'm just old school. Any freshman that gives you more than 10 minutes a game is a bonus - even on a team that is going to have a total of 3 guys with 100 minutes of experience Gutsy call pegging Perkins in the starting line-up when he was 5th on the freshman depth chart last year and is out this year with the same injury that took Thompson more than a year to fully recover from

RIP, Jack Jack was one of those most unforgettable characters that you meet in life. Bartended at Lahey's, I believe, during my days. A Worcester guy, through and through, who bled purple. Always had his fire radio by his side, and would drop everything and beat the fire trucks to a big fire. It seemed that he knew everybody in Worcester, as well as all the haunts, and he relished taking care of the guy's speeding tickets. He could tape an ankle faster than anyone, all the while telling stories, breaking balls and sweating last night's scotches all over your leg. He would wear only a blue windbreaker on the coldest days on top of the hill (and those days could be more than cold), and laugh at everyone who couldn't take it! He loved all the players and would always go an extra mile for any one of them. I was very sad when I heard he passed nearly a couple decades ago, and was disappointed when the College barely mentioned his passing in the Crossroads magazine. For all he did for HC athletes, he deserved better.

Tom if most of the incoming freshmen don't get more minutes than the three you mentioned we will be in big trouble. I'm already on record as stating next year will be a major rebuilding year with the number one goal being development of the freshmen. Just look around the league and see the impact of freshmen on almost every team. I'm very hopeful about the incoming freshmen class because unlike last year when we lost all our top targets this year we signed the five recruits very early which indicates to me that the staff got the guys they targeted. If the next class is not a significant bui;ding block to the future we are in big trouble.

I am not saying that next year's frosh will beat out those 3, but I believe that it will be based on ability, not their class.

I think there is a very good chance that 2 or 3 of the incoming freshmen will get a lot of playing time next season.

Hearing about frosh playing time on other teams says little if they don't help that team to win. I want to see what happens for this year's frosh as sophomores. Look at the progression of PB. It is possible we can see major improvement.

Relying on freshman is generally not a recipe for success. Take American for example they are relying on two freshman starters who are playing very well but the team is not winning. BU, Bucknell and Lehigh have freshman making significant contributions as complimentary players and those teams are winning. Regarding our freshmen don't you think if Carmody thought they could contribute he would be playing them. If we had Gasperini, Andree, Brodeur, Nelson or Kostecka I'm sure they would be getting playing time. I hope you're right and CLS and JS show major improvement next year however freshman who can play generally play immediately. Obviously PB is somewhat of an outlier to that theory but remember he came in with much better credentials than CLS and JS, was hurt at the start of last year, and was playing behind Hamilton and Green.
