Kalif targeted on consecutive plays. One knocked down by the cover guy before it got to him. The other one was bounced about 2 yards before him by Tannehill.

Disappointing first half. No receptions. One fair catch and one 14-yard return of a free kick after a safety.

Old friend Bob Socci did give HC a shout-out first time he called Kalif’s name.

Seems like he didn't do anything to hurt his chances, but if he could just take something to the house next week......

NFL coaches and GMs want to win first and foremost. With the exception of early round draft picks teams have invested in and don’t want to give up on, it’s largely a meritocracy. If a player has a stronger relationship with a coach or organization, that could help in a tiebreaker situation but they want to win.

Well...................'92,
In major league baseball the organization stands on its head to have the high draft picks succeed. They get chance after chance after chance.
How is the job security in the GM and Scouting office if one or two UFA make the squad and the first and second round draft choices get cut?
Uh.....not good
It is 100% true in baseball and I'll bet football also.

I think football is much more of a crap-shoot than baseball..Not playing as much last night as last week is a good sign in eyes.."Regulars" don't play as much in pre-season to avoid the all important injury bug...Last week he showed what he can do! Not Holy Cross related, buy Pat Ricard who is with the Ravens, 3rd season, is from my local high school. He is a throw back player, plays fullback, and defensive tackle...might be the only player in the NFL that plays both sides of the ball....(plus he is engaged to a girl who lives across the street from me!)....So cheer him on! Great kid...

Great kid... I appreciate the optimism but that is not what happened. The “regulars” played in the first quarter. Kalif did not. He is clearly on the outside looking in with two preseason games left. Lot can still happen but, if they were picking their 53 guys today, he would be getting cut.

Kalif’s main competition for the 6th receiver slot is Darius Jennings, another undrafted guy who has bounced around the league a little. He won’t be getting the preferential treatment of an early-round pick.

I know Mike Vrabel, his dad Chuck and I played summer league hoops together in Akron, and we briefly caddied on the tour together in the late 60s/early 70s. While he is a fanatic about special teams, and downing the ball on the one didn’t hurt Ks chances, like others suggest if a decision needed to be made today it truly would be a tough call to keep him on the 53 . If he makes the team imho it will be because Mike overruled his assistants

As long as he keeps getting better year after year I hope he keeps trying for the league. He’s a great representation of what HC is all about. Seems like he gets closer each time and everyone loves him. It will open up for him soon if he doesn’t make the 53 this time.

From MusicCityMiracles.com:
Wide Receiver In: Corey Davis, Adam Humphries, A.J. Brown, Tajae Sharpe, Taywan Taylor, Darius Jennings
Out: Kalif Raymond, Cody Hollister, Anthony Ratliff-Williams, DeAngelo Yancey, Papi White, Tanner McEvoy
This group seems to be getting sorted out as we get further into camp. Based on rotations it seems that Sharpe and Jennings are going to be on the roster, joining Davis, Humphries, and Brown as guys that seem relatively safe.
The sixth spot figures to come down to Taylor versus Raymond as things stand right now and I just don’t think Raymond has done enough to force the Titans hand so far. Taylor was just OK in the preseason game against the Patriots — he made a couple tough catches, but couldn’t hang on to another one with a defender’s raking through his arms on a deep ball — but he was very clearly better in practice work and offers more upside than Raymond, who has also dropped a couple passes in preseason action.
I don’t believe any of these other receivers stand a realistic shot at making the roster. I think Hollister or Ratliff-Williams could end up grabbing a practice squad spot though.

Saw another reference to Kalif being Practice Squad eligible. The rules are clear as mud. He has already been on various practice squads for parts of 3 seasons which I thought would exhaust his eligibility. However, it may be that because one of those seasons was an accrued season (at least 6 regular season games), that season doesn’t also count as one of his 3 practice squad seasons. Not sure. Hopefully he’s eligible and can at least stick that way if the numbers don’t break in his favor.

The Tennessean predicts Kalif to be on the wrong side of the bubble in their latest roster projection. Unfortunately, this seems to be the conventional wisdom at the moment. Still 10 days left for something to shake out (trade, injury, more Taywan Taylor drops).
Wide receiver (6) Corey Davis, Adam Humphries, A.J. Brown, Tajae Sharpe, Taywan Taylor, Darius Jennings
Kalif Raymond’s acceleration, speed and playmaking ability have made him fun to watch in training camp and a popular candidate to crack the roster. With the additions of Adam Humphries and A.J. Brown to the top of the receiving corps, though, it was always going to be an uphill battle for anyone at the bottom of the depth chart. Raymond deserves a lot of praise in that regard, but he still falls just short of a roster spot. Darius Jennings, the league’s top kick returner a year ago, claims the No. 6 spot.

I thought Kalif might be done for the night and then they run him out there on 3rd down to move the chains. 3 catches on 3 targets.
