Not silly at all. What is silly is penalty kicks - although a slight improvement on the coin toss that was used previously. Unfortunately soccer is too grueling and the scoring too infrequent to allow all games to be played until an overtime goal is scored. Fans, players, and officials realize that that PKs are done solely because one team has to advance. But it is not part of the game and has nothing to do with who actually won the game. That is why historically any match that goes to penalty kicks has always been categorized as a tie in the record books. I recall that, at one time, if the game was tied at the end of regulation, the “W” went to the team that had more corner kicks. Corner kicks were used as a tiebreaker in the NCAA tournament for some period of time in the 1970's (perhaps a bit earlier as well). Whoever had the most CK's was declared the winner if a game was still tied after OT. Probably better than using PK's, but the problem was that it really changed the game in the final 15+ minutes. Teams weren't looking to score but rather just looking to get the ball to the end line and knock it off someone's leg. Of course winning a CK is always a secondary goal of a team, but it became the main goal with CK's being the tiebreaker.

I learned recently that they don’t do PKs in high school championship games here in CT. If the two finalists are tied at the end of the two OT periods, they are declared co-champs. So they do them leading up to that game though..?

So if both semis end in ties, that would be 4 champions ? What do they do if one semifinal is a tie and the other is not ? Better option After the two sudden deaths, finish the game the next day with more sudden deaths . NO PKS

Any chance of getting into the playoffs? Yes. A significant chance. Win on Saturday and they are in. Tie and they have a pretty good chance. Lose and they have some chance, depending on other games. (With a HC loss, they basically would need two teams out of Lehigh, Colgate, and Lafayette to lose. Or both Lafayette and Colgate to not win.) Assuming HC beats Bucknell and Army loses to Colgate, am I correct that HC is the 2 seed on the basis of tiebreaker 1b (comparison of record vs. highest seed) as we beat Navy while Army lost to them, assuming that Navy beats Loyola?

HC dominated play for most of the game, including all the 2nd half. With a little luck could have score another 2 or 3.

Congrats to the team! A feel-good story for a program that hadn't had much to feel good about for a long time.

In the goal by Harkins it appeared that the Bucknell defenders made no attempt to stop her/block her advance to the goal

Having watched parts of the teams loss @ San Diego, and having watched parts of yesterday's game, Friday's win showed great progress as a team.
Several observations. HC had the strong wind in the first half, and the wind speed dropped appreciably in the second half. Worked in HC's favor.
Given the wind and temperature, most of the HC players had long sleeve jerseys under their uni's, some wore gloves. Only one or two of the Bucknell players did the same. The substitute keeper for Bucknell put on a long sleeve jersey at half time. According to the NWS, the temp at match start was in the mid 40s, and the wind was 25 mph, gusting to 35.
Army has one more game @ Colgate, today, and a win or tie would give Army second place, and HC would take third place.

In the goal by Harkins it appeared that the Bucknell defenders made no attempt to stop her/block her advance to the goal The defender nearer the ball apparently stopped to put the attacker into an offside position, but the pass may have been timed for her to still be on.

Thought there was also a defender on the left of the screen who was ahead of the HC player

No. Semis and finals are always hosted by the #1 seed in soccer (and FH). HC is definitely the 2 seed though and has a first round bye.
