The hope was that RW would come back for a couple of years but make it known he was grooming Daigneault to be his successor. And yes, after the Kearney year, Reagan was adamant that he would only hire a head coach with previous experience. Any surprise that DR is running an aquarium in Florida now? Haha. Although I agree that Dick Regan deserves the lion's share of the blame for the state of HC basketball, I can't completely knock his decision to not hire Daigneault once Fr. McFarland put the kibosh on bringing RW back. Sure, 2010-2011 may have gone better: the remaining players would have certainly bought into his system more than they did Coach Brown's. However, we have no idea how good of a recruiter he would have been. If connection to big names sufficed, Howie Dickenman and CCSU would have been a NEC powerhouse.

Mark is extremely personable. He probably recruited some strong players at Florida. He would have hired highly competent assistants who would do the majority of the ground work. It would have been hard for Regan to hire such a young coach with no head coaching experience after the Kearney disaster, but Mark would have been a terrific head coach.

Off topic but has to do with Regan. I will admit right away, I was not a DR fan!!! He always put up roadblocks to any suggestions about improving fan support for HC basketball!!! At one summer men's BB camp, portable BB baskets were setup in the Hart parking lot. DR got into his car, put it in reverse, and proceeded to back into one of the portable hoops!! He got out of his car and looked at what he had just done, shrugged his shoulders and got back into his car and I could not help laughing as he got back into his Jaguar and drove off...

It's Dick "Regan". We used to call him "Governor" after the governor of California; their names sound almost alike but are spelled differently

That's, at best, a conjecture based on your personal sentiments towards him. You do not know, which is precisely my point. I also echo bison's take that he probably did not have a recruiting-based role. Lots of people on this board begin their criticisms of Coach Brown by calling him a "nice man," "personable," "relatable," and other terms only to be followed by critiques of how he went about the job. None of this is a critique of Mark. He was always great to me, and I wish him well. There is now a NBA head coach and active player that come from two separate Holy Cross Men's Basketball regimes. That is something to celebrate and appreciate.

No doubt a rebuilding team like OKC will turn around and deal Horford to some other team. Unless he qualifies as an "expiring contract" in which case they might keep him around for salary cap (down the road) reasons.

The Celtics could have used Average Al's veteran leadership during the playoffs this year.

A couple Patriot League guys leading the Thunder to a preseason win tonight — Daigneault and Muscala (18 points).
On what appears to be a rebuild in OKC, Muscala may get regular minutes this season.

Muscala, btw, started and played most of the first half - but they used all different players in the second half. Mike played 17 minutes, hit 4-4 on threes, 1-1 on twos, and 4-4 on FT's. I assume Daigneault is sitting on the bench in a ceremonial position recording stats while his assistants do the actual coaching.

Mark brought his OKC into ny this weekend and came away with two double digit wins - he’s doing a great job with a totally rebuilt lineup

Currently 5-4 record From today’s The Athletic
Mark Daigneault has them playing defense. Yes, they’ve got some veterans in Al Horford and George Hill to lead, but getting this many young guys to play good team defense is really difficult to do. Biggest key? They simply don’t foul much. Thunder rarely send opponents to the free-throw line, and it’s keeping their mistakes from being magnified. Incredible week.

Very impressive job by MD thus far. Normally I’d go all in on the Thunder as my team but the Knicks are showing some signs of being a half-competent NBA franchise for the first time in a while.

Don’t get too excited about the Knicks. It is rare for an NBA team to succeed without a superstar.

We did have ONE really strong team in 2012-2013 that actually advanced over the Celtics in the playoffs and gave the Pacers a 6-game series in the East semis IIRC. That was the one year that Melo and Amare were together and mostly healthy, we had Tyson Chandler, Billups, Jared Jeffries (who was actually decent in run #2 with team) and Jason Kidd in his last active season. I think we also had sharpshooter Steve Novak and Pablo Prigioni on that team.

Amazing that I was a Holy Cross student the last time the Knicks won anything. And I got my acceptance to The College the same month that the Jets were a winner.

OKC beat the Lakers last night. For some reason, this game seems to have received a lot of attention. 🤔 Watching Sports Center this morning, it took considerable effort to find out who won. OKC's certainly in the playoff mix. Teams 6-13 have 25-29 wins apiece; and if you're a loss column person, 4-13 have 30-26 apiece.
