If he has fears for his long-term health he has made a very smart decision as he should have enough $$$ to last a lifetime. Current NFL players have to be hearing about all the long-term effects of playing in the league

Even thirty years ago, players played as long as they could to keep getting paid. The exorbitant QB salaries are a thing of only the near-present day NFL. These guys can get one extension, play half of it, and still be set for life. I wonder how much the NFLPA union has insurance and pension and retirement planning and other options available to make departure even easier. The fans lose, the team loses, the league loses, but the individual made out like a bandit. He got out while he could and got paid and has his whole adult life ahead of him. Not everyone can be so lucky.

Patriots just went through the same thing with Pro-Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski.
From a team standpoint, Gronk was nicer about it announcing at the end of last season. A little tougher on the team to make the decision on the day of the 3rd pre season game.
Off topic, my fantasy league drafted early this year and I am happy to say I didn't draft Luck.
