It is interesting to observe how relatively quiet everything is on this site in regard to the coming year. IIRC last year at this time there were a number of active threads about the coming year. Did interest in the team "graduate" with JF? I look forward to seeing what our new coach and his staff will do in terms of reshaping this group of players and in adding to the talent pool coming to the Cross. I may bee wrong, but there seems to be more interest in posting about Harvard than our own Crusaders. Does anyone plan to observe practices (if that is allowed)? When does the season officially start practice? (Cute how spellcheck changed "anyone" to "a neon" and "quiet" to "quite")

Here's a link to the rules for when practice can begin. If you can find three lawyers, two mathematicians, two logic teachers, and a dowser you might be able to decipher the rules. As a practical matter, I believe full practices can begin at or around October 16 web3.ncaa.org/lsdbi/search/bylawView?id=8823

Last year expectations were high. We also had a better handle on what we had. It was much easier to think about things like who starts and who gets how many minutes when you know most of the players. Even when we took wild stabs for the freshmen, we only needed to project a supporting role. By my count we really only know anything about six guys (LeSann, Butler, Faw, Niego, Copeland, and Hargis) Our normal predictions that we would be having now aren't much better than a ouija board with so many unknowns
Things aren't so rosy this year. The last place team lost 3 of it's top 4 players and there are zero scholarship point guards who have any college experience. It's just hard to get pumped up two months before the first game. Fear not. Chatter will pick up as the season gets a little closer
- I agree it will be interesting to see what kind of identity the new coach wants to create for this team
- I am not one to randomly walk into a practice. First of all I don't know when they are. Secondly, many coaches like closed practices. Most recently, Coach Carmody ran closed practices - even to the point of covering the glass in the doors to the gym. Even if I knew the practice schedule, I wouldn't drive up to school in the hopes a door was unlocked. If an open practice is announced, I would absolutely go. I remember Coach Carmody and Coach Brown each doing it once. For what it's worth, I don't think Coach Brown was big on locking the doors and people did sneak in.
- The first official practice date is determined by counting back so many days from the first game. I don't remember how many days you count back

Sandy looks a bit bigger (muscular) than I would have guessed.

Just seems like there's so much we don't know yet about how BN will coach and recruit. Maybe he plans on playing really small ball(?), with all these pg names that keep coming up. We will get some answers before we know it - the start of the season will be here in a flash.

I believe Pridgen is on the left and Sandy is on the right. Pridgen seems to have hit the weight room in the off season. That is a good sign for the team.

An institution shall not engage in more than 30 days of countable athletically related activities before its first regular-season contest." So if a coach wants to practice only five days a week in preseason - which is what most select - then they can start practice exactly six weeks prior to their first game. If they choose to practice six days a week for some or all of the preseason, then they must start later. For HC, assuming they opt to practice five days a week, I believe the first practice date would be Tuesday September 24th.

i would like to see his lower body (pause) since "popcorn muscles" can be deceiving, but prigden certainly does look pretty muscular in that pic.
he was a football player in high school, right? have always loved football players since they typically bring a level of toughness out on the court. at hc, austin butler and rj epitome that and i love the fact that we'll have butler, prigden, and rj all together for the next couple of years. hopefully that will rub off on some of our other guys as we haven't had teams that i would consider physically tough since the rw years. that seems to be changing!

The kid that has been playing a different sports has worked on different tasks and in so doing usually develops into a better athlete than the kid who specialized in one sport since grammar school. The specialist might have a better understanding of his game, but that basketball IQ can be developed in college. One reason we expect the players to be better as seniors than freshmen

There should be more interest in the coming season with a new coach and some good looking freshmen, but the program has really torpedoed over the past decade that it is difficult for many alums and locals to be excited about a team that will be picked to finish in the bottom of the PL.
Unfortunately, all current students have known of the basketball program at HC is a loser.
Here’s to ADMB and HCBN reigniting things.

I agree with m much of that, but this team did win an early season tournament only last year and did win the PL Tournament and an NCAA game in FHCBC's first year. Remember the response se from the students at that time. It was impressive and shows that a winning team can ignite school spirit and teams support pretty quickly.

Unfortunately this program is guilty until proven innocent again.

RGS at this point there is little reason for optimism regarding the upcoming season. The players that won the preseason tournament last season are by and large gone. All we have is hope that maybe Carmody was such a lousy coach that he misused the skills of the returning players and they are better than they have shown to date, maybe the freshmen are outstanding and will have a major impact on turning the program around and maybe Nelson will land some recruits that will begin to get us on even footing with the top programs in the league. Unfortunately that's where we are today and I'm hoping this is rock bottom and we'll soon see the program headed in an upward trajectory.

Since we don't know anything yet about our new head coach's plans and how this team will be developed under him, why not be optimistic? At this point, isn't that what most fans do every year? (I say that as one who remembers the old Brooklyn Dodgers' fans, and almost a century of Red Sox fans)

Rome wasn't built in a day
I'm long term optimistic. Two months from now, not so much
I will still be in the stands for pretty much every game in New England supporting the 2019-20 edition, watching them grow, and hoping they prove my negativity is unwarranted.

The Blaney court windows are equipped with shades, They were drawn the most of the times I was at the Luth last season. The court & the indoor football facility feature balconies; I wonder how often they are used by coaches.... used to video practices? do they do that?
